  • Tell City boys run past Corydon

    TELL CITY—Tell City swept all three places in five events and trounced Cory-don 94-29 in boys track Tuesday.
    Thomas Simpson won two individual events, the 1600-meter run in 4:40.68 and the 3200 in 10:09.43.
    Nate Kaiser won the 800 in 2:01.91 and teamed with Kaden Chestnut, Elliot Reed and Leo Simpson to win the 3200 relay in 12:23.
    The Marksmen also did well in the sprints. Will Simpson won the 100 in 11.53 and the 400 in 54.21. Trey Mucker took the 200 in 24.33.

  • Bulldogs lose 2 on road

    NEW ALBANY—Christian Academy scored four runs in the fifth inning to overtake Cannelton and beat the Bulldogs 12-11 in baseball Monday.
    “We had a couple of costly errors in the fifth inning - a couple of dropped fly balls that probably should’ve been caught,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “We scored enough runs to win.
    “We probably should’ve scored a couple more runs. I got a little too aggressive trying to steal bases and got Rafe (Garrett) thrown out trying to steal third.”

  • TC splits PAC games

    FERDINAND—Chloe Carman, Morgan Schuetter and Ava Hilgenhold each had two hits as Tell City beat Forest Park 9-4 in PAC softball Tuesday.
    Carman hit a home run over the left-center field fence in the seventh inning.
    Schuetter and Hilgenhold each hit a double and a single, with Schuetter driving in two runs.
    Hayley Fackler, Emili Stephens and Annie Wood each also hit a double.
    Tell City batters had no strikeouts the entire game.
    Schuetter pitched a complete game for the win, giving up seven hits and no walks and striking out five.

  • Commodores extend winning streak...

    FRENCH LICK—Some teams would just go through the motions the rest of the season after losing their first eight games.
    But Perry Central’s softball team has reeled off seven straight wins since that start thanks to strong hitting and improved defense.
    The Commodores improved to 3-1 in the PLAC by using a 12-hit attack to pound Springs Valley 15-1 Monday.
    Maddie Labhart hit a home run and a single and drove in four runs to lead the Commodore attack.

  • Commodores slug Paoli

    LEOPOLD—Gavin Poole drove in four runs with a homer and a single as Perry Central outslugged Paoli 13-8 in baseball Monday.
    Poole, who can switch-hit but usually bats right-handed, hit a two-run homer over the right-field fence in the first inning while batting left-handed.
    Reece Davis went 3 for 5 with a double for Perry Central.
    Wyatt Edwards, Kage Kiplinger and Levi Hubert each contributed two of the Commodores’ 15 hits.
    Edwards, John Bashor and Colten Bland each hit a double.
    Edwards and Kiplinger each drove in two runs.

  • Marksmen pounce on Cannelton...

    TELL CITY—Tell City scored 10 runs in the first inning and beat Cannelton 16-6 in baseball Tuesday.
    Nick Smith hit a triple and a double and drove in three runs that inning.
    The Marksmen’s seven hits that inning also included a triple by Bryson Naviaux and a double by Bryon Reid.
    They also took advantage of two errors, two walks, a passed ball on a dropped third strike, and two wild pitches that inning.

  • Grace takes 2 from Bulldogs

    CANNELTON—So much for the home-field advantage.
    Despite having to make a long trip to Madisonville, Ky., Cannelton swept a baseball doubleheader at Grace Baptist April 13. But Grace Baptist returned the favor with two wins at Cannelton Thursday, 7-5 and 6-3.
    Cannelton had only three hits in the opening game but rallied to tie the score 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
    Dakota Thomas hit a two-run double for the Bulldogs that inning.
    Grace Baptist scored twice in the top of the fifth, though, to win the five-inning game.

  • Scearce, Pioneers shut out...

    BOONVILLE—Masen Scearce pitched a three-hitter as Boonville shut out Tell City 1-0 in baseball Thursday.
    Scearce walked none and struck out seven.
    Nick Smith hit a double and a single and Maison Gehlhausen added a single for Tell City.
    Bryson Naviaux (five innings) and Ryan Morgan (one inning) combined to pitch a two-hitter for Tell City.
    The Pioneers scored the game’s only run in the third inning.
    Dylan Underhill and Ross Kirkland each hit a double for the Pioneers’ two hits.

  • Titans edge TC in 9th inning

    TELL CITY—Gibson Southern tied the game with a run on an error with two outs in the seventh inning and beat Tell City 4-3 in nine innings in PAC softball Thursday.
    Tell City outhit the Titans 7-5. Morgan Schuetter went 2 for 5 with a home run to lead the Marksmen’s attack.
    Justice Kuster and Hayley Fackler each added a double, with Kuster getting an RBI on hers.
    Schuetter hit a solo homer over the right-center field fence in the third inning.

  • Commodores beat Cannelton, Paoli

    LEOPOLD—Perry Central had back-to-back 12-run innings in a 26-0 softball win over Cannelton Wednesday.
    The Commodores had 10 hits for the game but also took advantage of eight walks, nine Cannelton errors, and several hit batsmen and wild pitches.
    Catie Hauser hit a triple and a single, Chelsey Billings a double and a single, and Maria Hubert two singles to lead Perry Central’s attack.
    Billings and Hauser each drove in four runs.
