  • Huber sets 3 records in Dubois...

    DUBOIS - Nick Huber broke three school records and two meet records as he led Perry Central to third place in Northeast Dubois' boys track invitational Tuesday.

    Northeast Dubois won the seven-team meet with 166 points. Perry Central scored 108.

    Huber cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump, breaking the school record of 6-5 he previously shared with Loyd Jobe.

    Huber won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.50 seconds, breaking his own school record of 14.57 and the meet record of 15.06 set by Jeff Higdon in 1990.

  • TC goes 2-2 in tourney

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. - Lauren Roberts pitched a five-hit shutout as Tell City beat Webster County 6-0 Saturday morning in its second pool game of Hancock County's girls softball tourney.

    The Marksmen, who had beaten Owensboro Friday, lost their last two games, 10-2 to Hancock County and 9-8 in eight innings to Ohio County, to finish 2-2 in the tourney.

    Roberts struck out four and walked two against Webster County.

    Her teammates backed her with eight hits. Casi Hay hit a single and a double and Lauren Goffinet also had two hits.

  • Mitchell rallies to defeat PC

    LEOPOLD - Mitchell broke open a pitchers' duel with six runs in the sixth inning to beat Perry Central 6-2 in PLAC baseball Monday.

    Perry Central left-hander Wes Linette and Mitchell's Steve Tomlinson matched scoreless innings until the sixth.

    Linette struck out the first batter he faced in the sixth. Then "I think he got a little tired," said Perry Central Coach Ty Guillaume.

    The next four batters singled, walked, singled and walked to get the big inning started. Linette was relieved by Andrew Harpenau before the inning was over.

  • Marksmen overtake Bears in...

    TELL CITY - Tell City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Evansville Central 7-6 in baseball Tuesday.

    Central had led from the first inning and appeared to be in good shape after scoring a run in the top of the seventh on a walk, a stolen base and a single to increase its lead to 6-3.

    But in the bottom of the seventh Tell City loaded the bases with one out on walks to Andy Chinn and Jordan Rhodes sandwiched around a bloop single to right field by Cody Pfeifer.

  • PC mauls Orleans

    MITCHELL - Perry Central used a nine-run sixth inning to rout Orleans 14-1 in PLAC baseball Wednesday.

    Though that inning removed any doubt about the outcome, Perry Central led 5-0 going into the sixth after Wes Linette hit a three-run homer over the right-center-field fence in the fifth inning.

    Zach Lutgring also drove in three runs for the game, as he went 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple.

    Lucas Bryant hit a two-run, pinch-hit single in the big sixth inning.

  • Perry Central falls to Raiders...

    LYNNVILLE - Audra Sanders pitched a no-hitter as Tecumseh beat Perry Central 10-0 in girls softball Friday.

    Sanders, who led the Braves to second place in last year's Class A state tourney (they are currently ranked third in the state), struck out 15 batters in the five-inning game.

    "She overpowered us," said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson, adding that the Commodores swung at several rise balls that ended up above the strike zone.

    Still Gibson said the Commodores "played a lot better" than the previous night. "Our intensity was really good and we played good defense.

  • Hay's home run gives TC...

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. - Casi Hay hit a three-run homer with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Tell City a 4-1 girls softball victory over Owensboro in the first game of the Hancock County tourney Friday.

    The win raised the Marksmen's record to 4-1, their best start in eight years. Their only loss was 4-2 to Heritage Hills, which is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A.

    With the score tied 1-1 Friday, Jamie Brinksneader led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk.

    Paige Gelarden bunted to sacrifice her to second but was also safe on an error.

  • Commodores sweep Bulldogs

    CANNELTON - Wes Linette homered in both games as Perry Central swept a baseball doubleheader with Cannelton 14-2 and 20-1 Thursday.

    The Commodores had 13 hits in the first game and 18 in the second one.

    Bo Gibson went 3 for 4 to lead Perry Central hitters in the first game. He scored three runs and drove in two.

    Ryan Hanan drove in four runs that game with a single and a double. Austin Hauser and Tony Backer each added two RBIs.

    Stephen Lane hit a double to lead Cannelton's three-hit attack.

  • Forest Park outruns TC, PC girls

    TELL CITY - Forest Park won 12 of 15 events to dominate a girls triangular track meet with Tell City and Perry Central Thursday.

    Forest Park scored 77, Tell City 42, and Perry Central 37.

    The Perry County teams' only victories came in the field events, as Tell City's Dana Sibrel won both throwing events and Perry Central's Amanda Allen took the high jump.

    Sibrel threw the discus 116 feet, 2 inches, a personal record, and the shot put 34 feet, 8 inches for her victories.

    Allen cleared 5 feet to take the high jump.

  • Marksmen hold off Hornets

    TELL CITY - Tell City scored four runs in the second inning and held off a late rally by Hancock County to beat the Hornets 6-4 in baseball Friday.

    Ryan Zuelly drew a walk to start the Marksmen's second-inning rally. He advanced to third base on Trent Gunn's single to left-center field.

    After Gunn stole second base, both runners scored on Eric Henrickson's single up the middle.

    One out later Henrickson scored on Tommy McCallister's triple into the left-center gap.

    McCallister then scored on Cody Pfeifer's single to right.
