  • Tell City holds off Raiders

    TELL CITY—Tell City played errorless defense and made the most of its three hits to beat Southridge 4-3 in PAC girls softball Tuesday.
    The Marksmen scored what proved to be the decisive run in the sixth inning without a hit.
    Stori Beard walked, stole second base, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Derrian Zabel’s ground out to the second baseman.
    That put the Marksmen up 4-1 and enabled them to withstand two Raider runs in the top of the seventh.

    LEOPOLD—Sydney Goffinet drove in a school-record six runs with a pair of doubles as Perry Central pounded Springs Valley 11-1 in PLAC girls softball Monday.
    Perry Central started the bottom of the first inning with four consecutive hits.
    Morgan Richardson singled to right-center field, Hannah Edwards beat out an infield hit, and Heather Hendricks got a single on a bunt when no one covered first base for the Blackhawks.

  • Cook on Hoosier Basketball’s top...

    INDIANAPOLIS—Can-nelton guard Brandon Cook has been invited to participate in the 26th annual Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 senior boys’ workout Sunday, April 7.
     Nine players who participated in the recent IHSAA state finals highlight the list of invitees, including Linton-Stockton’s Austin Karazsia and Dess Fougerousse.
    Statistical evaluation, game observation and statewide research were conducted throughout the season and the tourney to determine Hoosier Basketball ’s Top 60, according to the magazine’s press release.

  • Perry Central boys golf team...

    LEOPOLD—Perry Central’s boys golf team had the first winning record in its 10-year history last spring. And with five of the six starters back, the Commodores hope to do even better this year.
    The Commodores went 33-24 last year, including finishing fifth in the seven-team PLAC and seventh in the 13-team Jasper sectional.

  • Seven-run 3rd lifts Perry...

    LEOPOLD—Miranda Claise drove in three runs and pitched a four-hitter as Perry Central defeated South Central 12-2 in girls softball Friday.
    Claise struck out five, walked four, and gave up only one earned run.
    Teammates Ashley Guillaume and Sydney Goffinet each matched Claise’s three RBIs.
    Guillaume hit a double and a single. Goffinet and Morgan Richardson each also went 2 for 4.
    The Commodores led only 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning but then exploded for seven runs.
    The game was the season opener for both teams.

  • Bulldogs sweep two from Grace

    CANNELTON—Tristan Simmons pitched a two-hitter as Cannelton beat Grace 21-4 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Thursday.
    Simmons struck out 10.
    He also led the Bulldogs on offense, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and a single and driving in three runs.
    Damon Powers had three singles and Hunter Herzog, Steve Smith and Jeff Kendall each had a double and a single.
    Brandon Cook added two singles and Marvin Walls hit a double.
    Herzog matched Sim-mons’ three RBIs. Cook, Powers and Jayden Morris each added two.

  • Rebels defeat Perry Central

    LEOPOLD—South Spencer scored seven runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Perry Central for a 12-2 baseball victory Friday.
    The Rebels led only 4-2 entering the bottom of the fourth inning. Then Kobe Stephens beat out a nubber in front of the pitcher and Charleston Roberts walked to start their big inning.
    Nathan Kuester singled to center field to score Stephens.
    After Brandon Lehr struck out looking, Tyler Schneider was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

  • Fulkerson, PC girls rout Tell...

    LEOPOLD—Taysia Fulkerson won two individual sprints and a relay to lead Perry Central past Tell City 89-34 in a girls track season opener Thursday.
    Fulkerson won the 100-meter dash in 13.97 seconds and the 200 in 29.72.
    She teamed with Jennifer Kemp, Ashley Gengelbach and Hannah Harpenau to win the 400 relay in 55.47.
    Gengelbach also won the high jump at 5 feet and Harpenau won the long jump at 14 feet, 7 3/4 inches.

  • LeClere, Newton, Huber lead...

    LEOPOLD—Austin LeClere and Alex Newton each won four events as Perry Central beat Tell City 85-47 in boys track Thursday.
    LeClere won the 100-meter dash in 11.44 seconds, the 200 in 23.95, and the long jump at 21 feet, 7 inches.
    He teamed with Luke Hilgenhold, Jacob Braun and Devin Martin to win the 400 relay in 48.59.
    Newton won the 1600 run in 4:40.25, the 800 in 2:05, and the 3200 in 10:17.
    He teamed with Lane Lynch, Bryce Lain and Aaron Pierrard to win the 3200 relay in 9:12.99.
