  • Beard drives in 7 in Rockport win

    LINCOLN CITY—Tell City junior Spenser Beard hit a grand slam as Rockport trounced the Hoosier Express 25-2 in American Legion baseball Friday.
    Beard drove in seven runs for the game and scored three.
    Tell City graduate Dayne Seibert added three hits for Rockport.
    Tell City junior C.J. Rowe pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, as Rockport beat Mount Vernon 4-0 Saturday.
    Rowe struck out eight and walked two to improve to 2-0 on the season.
    Seibert also had three hits in that game.

  • Hollinden wins Derby 5K run

    DERBY—Tell City boys cross country coach Chris Hollinden won the Derby Riverfest 5-kilometer run June 22.
    Hollinden ran it in 19:09, more than four minutes faster than runner-up John Pfeiffer, who won the 41-59 men’s age group.
    Sarah Richard edged Kasey Wagner by one second, 23:49 to 23:50, for the women’s overall title.
    Both of them competed in the 26-40 women’s age group.
    The run had 92 participants.

  • Midway Storage romps to age-11-...

    TELL CITY—Courtney Berger hit a triple and a double and scored three runs as Midway Storage beat Performance Cycle 13-1 to win Tell City’s age-11-12 girls softball playoff tourney last Thursday.

  • Legacy cruises to title

    TELL CITY—Tori Peter and Maddie Briem each had three hits as Legacy Financial  trounced Cash Waggner 15-0 to win Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball playoff tourney Friday.

  • Alvey claims national title

    OXNARD, Calif.—Tell City high school senior Dakota Alvey won the age-17-18 201-pound title in the Adidas national boxing tourney June 22.

  • Tri-County 4th in SISC meet

    TELL CITY—Amanda Wagner won one event and Will Roberts placed second in four to lead the Tri-County Swim Club to fourth place in the Southwestern Indiana Swim Conference summer meet last weekend.
    Wagner won the 15-and-older girls 100-meter breaststroke in 1:28.89.
    Roberts placed second in the 15-and-older boys 200 free in 2:34.49, 200 breast in 3:24.31, 100 backstroke in 1:27.82, and 100 breast in 1:28.87.
    Drew Ettensohn finished second in the 11-12 boys 200 individual medley in 3:52.78.

  • Tell City Girls Softball League...

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Girls Softball League will sponsor a fastpitch tourney, the Ohio River Riot, July 12-14 at its complex on 19th Street.
    The tourney is for ages 8-and-under, 10-U, 12-U and 14-U. The 8-U will be machine pitch. Age 10-U will have machine-pitch and live-pitch divisions. NSA fastpitch rules will apply for all other divisions.
    Teams are guaranteed three games – two pool play followed by single-elimination. Entry fee is $250 for the machine-pitch tourneys and $275 for all other divisions. There are no admission or parking fees.

  • Legacy clinches regular-season...

    TELL CITY – Legacy Financial scored four first-inning runs and held off a last-inning Cash Waggner rally to win 8-7 Thursday, clinching first place in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league in the league’s final regular-season game.

  • Rockport picks up fourth...

    ROCKPORT – Rockport Post 254 followed a different script Thursday night than shown in previous games but still came away with the same result, a 9-5 win over Owensboro, Ky., Post No. 9 in American Legion baseball.
    That’s now four straight wins for the Rockport post.
    In Post 254’s last three wins, they jumped to and maintained early leads. But against Owensboro, Rockport fell behind after taking a 1-0 lead and trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

  • Girls league games rained out...

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Girls Softball League games were rained out Monday and Tuesday (except for T-ball Tuesday, which was played in the grass), pushing back the league’s playoff tourneys.

    The age-13-16 division was scheduled to play its last night of regular-season games Wednesday and plans to start its playoff tourney tonight. The same was true for the age-9-10 division.

    The age-11-12 playoff tourney was scheduled for Wednesday on Wayne Marchand Field (the women’s league’s field).
