LEOPOLD—Perry Central returns all but one starter from last year’s 24-7 volleyball team, so the Commodores are optimistic about competing for another PLAC title.
Ashley Gengelbach, who led the team in blocks and made All-PLAC the last two years, graduated. But three all-conference players return: seniors Hannah Harpenau and Sydney Goffinet and junior setter Grace James.

TELL CITY—Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes thinks her volleyball team can contend for a third consecutive PAC title despite returning only three players who saw much varsity action last year.
Graduated are last year’s two varsity setters and the team’s leading hitter, McKenzie Hayes, who was among the state’s leaders in kills the last three years and now plays for the University of Memphis.
But Logan Flannagan, who was second on the team in kills with 196 last year, returns.

  • All ages compete in ‘family’...

TELL CITY—As players gathered for the TNT Amusement Co. dart league’s postseason banquet and cricket tourneys Friday, Norma Smith said, “It’s like a family in here.”
For some, such as Smith, that statement really rings true, as she has three daughters, a son and son-in-law also playing in the league (one of her daughters has an appropriate name for a league participant: Sue Dartt).
But Smith was referring mostly to the fact “the people are friendly.”

Tell City High School athlete Mariah Blake, who trains at New Directions, came close to earning one of the three women’s awards. Had she finished just one place higher in the final event, she would have been third.
