    FERDINAND—Tell City won all three singles matches to beat Forest Park 3-2 in PAC boys tennis Monday.
    Jake Swihart beat Blake Emmert 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles.
    Zach Fisher outlasted Matt Miller 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in No. 2 and Luke Thomas defeated Kade Olinger 6-4, 6-2 in No. 3.
    “Singles played quite well tonight, especially Jake and Luke,” said Tell City Coach Nick Weyer. “Zach gutted out a third-set victory, which will help him close out tight matches in the future.”

  • Harpenau leads Commodores to...

    LEOPOLD—Hannah Harpenau made 12 kills and 16 digs as Perry Central beat Corydon 25-18, 26-24, 25-12 in volleyball Tuesday.
    Harpenau made 32 spike attempts and 26 were good.
    Sydney Goffinet and Brittany Parker each added six kills and Grace James made five.
    James had 25 assists.
    Goffinet and Madeline Hubert each made three blocks and Jordan Sprinkle added two.
    Backing Harpenau in digs were James with nine, Parker with seven, and Hannah Edwards with six.
    Parker served four aces and Edwards and Goffinet each added three.

    FERDINAND—Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson hopes his team’s speed will give it the advantage in Friday’s 7 p.m. football game with Forest Park.
    Forest Park lost to Gibson Southern 60-0 in last week’s season opener.
    While acknowledging that “Gibson Southern is really good,” Gibson also mentioned that the Rangers “had trouble with Gibson Southern’s speed at times, and I think that’s a good thing for us.

    TELL CITY—Two fast teams that prefer the running game over passing will meet when Tell City hosts Heritage Hills in PAC football Friday at 7 p.m.
    “I’d say running the ball is their main strength,” said Tell City Coach Ryan George of the 0-1 Patriots. “But they’re a typical Heritage Hills team—they’re solid in all facets of the game.”

    BOONVILLE—Bryce Lain and Aaron Pierrard placed in the top 10 to lead Perry Central to third place in the 15-team Pioneer Invitational boys cross country meet Saturday.
    Perry Central scored 110 points, 11 more than runner-up Evansville North, and Tell City was fifth with 130. South Knox won with 75.
    Lain placed sixth in 17:01 and Pierrard 10th in 17:18.

  • Raiders nip Marksmen by 2 strokes

    TELL CITY—Taylor Seufert of Southridge shot 53 for medalist honors as the Raiders edged Tell City 248-250 in girls golf Monday.
    Addie Peter and Alex Lawalin each shot 56 to lead Tell City.
    Jenny Hess shot 66 and Mary Grace Alvey 72 to complete the Marksmen’s scoring.
    Sarah Hess, who shot 73, and Vanessa Hess, 75, also played varsity for the Marksmen.
    Tell City, 0-2, will visit Floyd Central Monday at 4:30 p.m.
