  • Finalists announced for country showdown

    JASPER – Anticipation and excitement is higher than ever as aspiring country music artists prepare for the 37th annual WBDC country showdown, held at the Jasper Arts Center on Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m.

    Thirteen acts from across the region are performing this year, with a few returning and several making their showdown debut. Each is vying to win over $1,000 in cash and prizes.

    The acts taking the stage in this year’s showdown are:

  • William Tell Elementary awards and honor roll

    TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary has recognized students achieving academic excellence in the third grading period.

  • Heritage Days this weekend at Rockport’s Lincoln Pioneer Village

    ROCKPORT – The Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum will host its annual spring Heritage Days Rendezvous from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Rockport City Park. The village will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until it closes for winter.

  • Walking the Yard

    Corrections officers, employees, and their families were welcomed to Branchville Correctional Facility May 10 and 11 for a 5K walk/run. The event was part of the facilities weeks long celebration of workers during Correctional Officer Appreciation Week. Each day’s trek from the grounds around Tipsaw Lake was well attended with about 40 people signing up to participate.

  • GAB named bankers association Five Star Member

    JASPER – German American Bank has been honored as a Five Star Member of the Indiana Bankers Association. The award was presented on May 2 at the IBA Mega Conference in downtown Indianapolis, in recognition of German American Bank’s association involvement throughout 2017.

    The Five Star Member designation recognizes those IBA-member banks which demonstrate outstanding commitment to the association in five areas: political awareness, issues advocacy, life-long learning, IBA volunteerism, and Preferred Service Provider utilization.

  • Memorial Hospital earns award for patient experience

    JASPER  – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper has achieved the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Memorial Hospital has received this designation for 10 years in a row.

    The 2018 distinction recognizes Memorial Hospital among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

  • What in the world? Learning with sensational science

    TELL CITY – Science can be further understood outside the classroom, commented Purdue Extension 4-H youth development educator Cathy Boerste, during this week’s Science Sensation program attended by area middle schoolers.

    Inviting students to the 4-H fair grounds for classes on science allows the students and teachers to witness and gain first-hand experience with applied science. Perry County’s seventh-grade, and some eighth-grade students, participated in the lessons.
