  • Port officials accept bid

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Port Authority Board of Directors accepted at a regular meeting Aug. 14 a $655,520 bid from Cooper Rail Service to improve a bridge along the Hoosier Southern Railroad line.

    Their acceptance of the Huntingburg company’s bid was contingent upon reviews by legal and engineering experts. Only one other bid was received for the work an engineer estimated would cost between $550,000 and $750,000. The W.M. Brode Co., of Newcomerstown, Ohio, bid $669,413.

  • Council approves tax abatement for ATTC

    TELL CITY – County-council members voted at their regular meeting Aug. 23 to ratify a resolution preliminarily adopted in June to abate taxes for ATTC Manufacturing.

  • Stepping Stones Preschool receives grant from Target for art workshops

    TELL CITY – Stepping Stone Preschool recently announced that its “Stepping Into Arts Workshops” program was awarded a grant from the Target Corp.
    In recognition of the efforts of Stepping Stones Preschool and the Stepping Into Arts workshops program, this grant will help with events such as the Christmas program, Grandparents Day and graduation.

  • Residents Stuff the Bus for local schools

    Residents of Perry and surrounding counties were generous in their support of this year’s Stuff the Bus program July 20-21 that provided back-to-school supplies to local students.
    The two-day event gathered more than 4,700 items valued at approximately $3,750. Additional cash donations of more than $1,800 were also received.

  • Oil Township High School 1948

    The Oil Township High School Class of 1948 held their 64th year class reunion at the Patio Steak house Aug. 10.

In the back are Clyde Smith, Donald King, Charlie Weatherholt, Norma (Murphy) Foertsh, Jim Underhill and Faye (Goffinet) King. Those not able to attend were Mary Ellen (Falkenberg) Cassiday, Verna (Stephenson) Bell, Joe Lavin and Jerome Kelly.

  • Transplant Games call attention to need for more organ donors

    My son, Joe Gladish, received an invitation to join Team Indiana to compete in the Transplant Games of America back in early spring. Joe had a kidney transplant in March 2007.

    He joined the team and represented the state at the 2012 Transplant Games in Grand Rapids, Mich., July 28-31. He competed in the men’s 400-meter race and coed 400 relay and played on the three-on-three basketball team.

  • Reunions

    ST. MARK – The 86th annual Captain Andrew Peter Batson family reunion will be held Sunday at St. Mark Catholic Church Parish Hall.
    A meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. and everyone attending is asked to take a covered dish and drinks. Paper goods will be supplied. The meal will be followed by a family meeting.
    Family members are also asked to take genealogy information and photos to share.

    Perry County Republican candidates gathered at party headquarters Monday evening to greet the public. Pictured from the left are Patrick Rich and Bernie Bower, candidates for county council at-large, and Brian Steen, candidate for District 1 commissioner. Republican candidate for county surveyor, David Lynch, was traveling and could not be present.
