  • Cannelton Council increases property taxes

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Common Council voted at a regular meeting to adopt a cumulative capital development fund that will add five cents to property-tax bills for each $100 of assessed value.

    Mayor Mary Snyder said the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance authorizes cities to implement such funds to recoup revenues lost when property-tax caps known as circuit breakers went into effect.

  • SonShine preschool sets open house for Wednesday

    EVANSTON – SonShine Early Learning Ministry invites the public to their preschool open house and registration from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school, off Indiana 545 west of New Boston.
    If you are interested in enrolling your 3 to 5 year old in a Christian pre-school program and would like to meet the new preschool teacher, plan to attend this event.
    The preschool class meets from noon to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and the junior pre-school class meets from 8 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Fitness Games set Schweizer Fest week

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Fitness Games, a competition to find out who the fittest people in Perry County are, will be held Aug. 9-11.

    The first of six events will be weightlifting – squat, bench press and dead lifts – 6-9 p.m. Aug. 9 at New Directions and Tell City High School’s weight room.

    The second event will be the hundreds, which includes double unders, sit-ups, air squats and pushups, 6-10 p.m. Aug. 9 in the street outside New Directions.

  • Tots Lots preschool enrollment info

    TELL CITY – Tots Lots Preschool has begun enrollment for the 2013-14 school year. For a child to be eligible for the Wednesday-Thursday-Friday session, they must be 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2012. This session will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
    The 3-year-old class is full.

  • Memorial Hospital receives VHA leadership award for clinical excellence

    JASPER – VHA Inc., a national health-care network, has given Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center a 2013 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence, honoring the hospital for achieving national performance standards for clinical quality, safety and patient experience.
    VHA is a national network of more than 1,350 nonprofit hospital systems and 72,000 non-acute facilities that work together to achieve new levels of clinical performance and operational efficiency.

  • Zoar Mosquito Fest set for Aug. 2-3

    ZOAR – The 41st annual Zoar Mosquito Fest will be Aug. 2 and Aug. 3 at the Zoar Picnic Grounds. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be followed by the Southern Indiana Wiffleball Tourney. The event is a double-elimination tourney with each team playing at least one game Aug. 2.   • Odd pickle

    Carter Fleck, 8, and his sister, Rheyse, 6, show off a cucumber that likely began as two fruits but fused and grew as one. They called it a Siamese cucumber. It was found growing in the garden of their neighbor, Albert and Mary Denning of St. Meinrad.                                   

  • Soccer squad faces 18-game schedule

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior High Soccer Team will play a record 18 games this year. The season will begin Aug. 15 at home against Mt. Vernon and conclude with the Southern Indiana Junior High Soccer Conference tourney the week of Oct. 1-5.

    New teams added to the schedule this year include North Posey, Evansville Christian and Vincennes Rivet.

    Tell City will play all teams in the PAC that field junior high and high school soccer teams, including Forest Park, South Spencer, Southridge, Heritage Hills, Gibson Southern, North Posey, and Pike Central.

  • Annual Tri Kappa Kaffee Klatch set for Aug. 7 at EUCC in Tell City

    TELL CITY – Epsilon Omega Chapter of Tri Kappa would like to invite the community to its traditional Kaffee Klatch breakfast Aug. 7 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, 10th and Jefferson streets in Tell City.
    Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
