  • Zoar Mosquito Fest set for Aug. 2-3

    ZOAR – The 41st annual Zoar Mosquito Fest will be Aug. 2 and Aug. 3 at the Zoar Picnic Grounds. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be followed by the Southern Indiana Wiffleball Tourney. The event is a double-elimination tourney with each team playing at least one game Aug. 2.   • Odd pickle

    Carter Fleck, 8, and his sister, Rheyse, 6, show off a cucumber that likely began as two fruits but fused and grew as one. They called it a Siamese cucumber. It was found growing in the garden of their neighbor, Albert and Mary Denning of St. Meinrad.                                   

  • Soccer squad faces 18-game schedule

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior High Soccer Team will play a record 18 games this year. The season will begin Aug. 15 at home against Mt. Vernon and conclude with the Southern Indiana Junior High Soccer Conference tourney the week of Oct. 1-5.

    New teams added to the schedule this year include North Posey, Evansville Christian and Vincennes Rivet.

    Tell City will play all teams in the PAC that field junior high and high school soccer teams, including Forest Park, South Spencer, Southridge, Heritage Hills, Gibson Southern, North Posey, and Pike Central.

  • Annual Tri Kappa Kaffee Klatch set for Aug. 7 at EUCC in Tell City

    TELL CITY – Epsilon Omega Chapter of Tri Kappa would like to invite the community to its traditional Kaffee Klatch breakfast Aug. 7 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, 10th and Jefferson streets in Tell City.
    Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

  • Rockport prepares for difficult regional tourney

    ROCKPORT – Post 254 faces stiff competition in its attempt to win an 18th regional baseball championship this weekend.

    Rockport will open the double-elimination tournament against Evansville sectional runner-up Newburgh in the second game of Friday’s opening round. Evansville champion Princeton will face Boonville, who Rockport defeated in the Boonville sectional, Friday at 4 p.m.

  • Birthday party for Smokey Bear set for Aug. 3 at Patoka Lake

    BIRDSEYE – The public is invited to join the staff of Patoka Lake as they celebrate Smokey Bear’s 68th birthday Aug. 3, at the Patoka Lake Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to noon.
    Take family and friends and enjoy activities and fun for all ages. Parents can take a camera and take pictures with Smokey Bear.
    The Orange County Southeast Township Volunteer Fire Department will give a special demonstration and presentation that is sure to inform and entertain all ages.

  • Uebelhor ribbon cutting on renovated building

    JASPER – Uebelhor Chevy-Cadillac recently celebrated a ribbon cutting announcing the completion of the remodeling of the Chevy-Cadillac building at 972 Wernsing Road in Jasper.

    According to Tony Uebelhor, General Motors has asked all of its dealers to upgrade their facilities. The company had one designated architecture firm develop the design, look and required elements.
    “It is a very clean, open, bright look but most importantly it is very customer focused,” a press release from Ubehlbor stated.

  • Rockport claims 40th sectional crown

    BOONVILLE – Aided by a critical fifth-inning error, Rockport was able to claim a 40th Legion Baseball sectional title Saturday, outlasting a surprisingly competitive Boonville team 10-7 in the championship round.

    Boonville, who reached the tourney’s double-elimination final following a 7-6, ninth-inning come-from-behind victory over Jasper earlier in the afternoon, scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to pull ahead 6-4.

  • Encaustic printing workshop Saturday

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Public Library-Tell City branch will present a workshop on encaustic printing Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
    Local amateur artist Laurie Dinkel will lead the workshop.
    Those attending are asked to take a warming tray, electric griddle or frying pan and mitten potholders, if possible.
