    Over the past few years, there has been an increase in meth-related crimes. Great Indiana communities like ours are built by Hoosier strength, perseverance and a caring attitude, but these guiding principles, which serve as the fabric of our society, are being deteriorated by the effects of meth.

    In the past years Perry County Memorial Hospital, then Lincoln Hills Development Corp., managed grants to help Perry County residents in efforts to quit tobacco. The two organizations educated the community on the effects of secondhand smoke, assisted at health fairs, school events and much more.

    One recent headline said that some of the U.S.-supplied weapons in Syria’s Civil War have apparently gone to the “wrong “ side.

    The writer meant that they are going to the current Syrian government’s forces instead of the rebels fighting to overthrow that regime.

  • New Directions to host fitness games during Schweizer Fest

    TELL CITY – New Directions Health and Fitness Club will host a Perry County fitness games event Aug. 9 through Aug. 11.
    Participants will compete in six different events over three days to test their overall fitness. Anyone can enter and the top three men and women will be selected after the games. Those entering are asked to be familiar with main lifts, such as bench, squat, deadlift and clean lifts.

  • Annual St. Meinrad Rocks fest to kick off Sept. 27; 19 acts featured

    ST. MEINRAD – The third annual St. Meinrad Rocks Fest will be held Sept. 27 and 28 and will be an outdoor event this year.

    Patmore family
    SANTA CLAUS – The Patmore family reunion will be held Aug. 3 at Sam and Amy Busler’s home, 398 S. Start Drive in Santa Claus.
    Those from Perry, Spencer and Dubois County families and those who have moved away over the years are encouraged to attend. Dinner will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. Drinks and table service will be provided.
    Those attending are asked to take a covered dish, swimwear, lawn chairs, old photos and stories.

  • William Tell sixth-graders earn top ranking in We The People showcase

    TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary sixth-graders competed with other elementary schools in mock congressional hearings as part of the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program recently.

    Each class member became an expert witness on one of the five units in the text and then testified in small groups before a panel of judges acting as U.S. congressional representatives.

  • Oaks Senior Center plans Savannah trip

    PERRY COUNTY – The Oaks Center Center in Cannelton is planning a trip to Savannah, Ga., Jekyll Island and Beaufort, S.C., in November.
    Cost for the seven-day-six-night trip is $539 per person for double occupancy. The group will be traveling from Nov. 10 to Nov. 16. Cost includes motorcoach transportation, lodging including four nights in Savannah, 10 meals, various different tours on Jekyll Island, in Savannah and in Beaufort and more.
