  • Autumn story times begin Friday at library

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County Public Library officials announced registration is now open for the autumn story-time session. Autumn story times will run from Friday through Oct. 17 with programs at both the Tell City and Cannelton locations. Parents and guardians may register for story time by calling the Tell City location at 547-2661. Story times are as follows:

  • Bruner – Potter

    Andrea Renee Bruner of Birdseye and Jeremy Wayne Potter of Jasper announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Carol Bruner and Allen Bruner of Birdseye. She is a graduate of Forest Park High School and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She works for the Indiana Gaming Commission.
    Mr. Potter is the son of Terry Potter and Jerry Potter of Henderson, Ky. He is a graduate of Henderson County High School, the University of Indianapolis and Oakland City University. He works at Stryker Endoscopy.

  • Social news, Sept. 5

    THE WILLIAM TELL Center will have their monthly carry-in dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the center. The weekly dance will follow at 7 p.m. Crosswind band will perform.

    TWILIGHT TOWERS offers bingo and euchre games in its dining room. Bingo games are held every Wednesday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and card games are held at 6 p.m. Thursdays and the first Monday of each month. The public is invited.

  • DAR accepts state awards

    PERRY COUNTY – In May the Lafayette Spring Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution earned several awards at the group’s state meeting. Lafayette Spring earned a level one Chapter Achievement Award for the 2012-13 year. They also accepted first in the public relations-social media division. Lena Joyal earned an award for outstanding chapter junior member and Deb Owens accepted an award for work in indexing for the state.

    The chapter’s first meeting for the 2013-14 year will be at 6 p.m. today at the Patio in Cannelton.

  • VFW summer picnic set for Oct. 6

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host its annual family picnic Oct. 6 at Mulzer Camp west of Troy.
    Members and their families, plus the ladies and men’s auxiliary units and their families are invited to attend.
    The post will furnish the meat, potatoes and drinks. Those attending are asked to take a covered dish or dessert.
    Dinner will begin around 12:30 p.m.

  • Education Notes, Sept. 5

    Arnold studies abroad at U of E’s British campus
    EVANSVILLE – University of Evansville student Jessica Arnold of Cannelton will spend the fall 2013 semester studying abroad at Harlaxton College, UE’s British campus near Grant-ham, England.
    Arnold, who is majoring in history, is among 156 students who began classes Sept. 2 at Harlaxton, housed in a 120-room Victorian manor in the East Midlands countryside.

  • Putts 4 Mutts Saturday

    CHRISNEY – A golf scramble will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Chrisney Golf Course to benefit Pals 4 Paaws. There will be a $40 entry fee, which includes lunch, golf cart and prizes.
    The group is looking for sponsors for each hole, which costs $100. For $50, two sponsors can sponsor one hole.
    Lunch will include barbecued chicken and meals will also be sold to the public. The day will also include a pick-a-prize auction. For additional information, call Tracy Speer-Horn at 454-2564. All proceeds will go to the TLC Pals 4 Paaws pet rescue.

    Breakfast fundraiser at Twilight Towers
    TELL CITY – Twilight Towers will have a breakfast fundraiser at 6 a.m. Saturday in the dining room at 1648 10th Street in Tell City.

  • Masons earn Lewis Jewels

    Archie Smallwood, Ray Windell and Rob Ellnor presented Lewis Jewels to fathers, sons and grandfathers with three generations in attendance Saturday at the Branchville Lodge 496.

  • Mt. Zion Christian Church welcomes new minister, to celebrate homecoming

    SANTA CLAUS – Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus would like to introduce Brother Richard Puryear as the congregation’s new minister. Puryear assumed the position this past June.
