  • Local Girl Scouts hit the Big Apple!

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County Girl Scouts traveled to New York City June 7 – 11.

    Seventeen Girl Scouts, five leaders, one Girl Scouts of Southern Indiana council member and 24 friends and family members enjoyed three full days of sightseeing with Taylor Tours of Tell City. Jim Ashby accompanied the group.

  • Peg and Ty McDaniel

    Peg and Ty McDaniel of Parrish, Fla., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February by attending the Diocese of Venice’s annual wedding anniversary Mass at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, Fla.

    Bishop Frank J. DeWane presided and led the couple in a ceremonial renewal of vows. They also celebrated the anniversary by going on a Carnival cruise to Nassau in the Bahamas, St. Maartens and St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.

  • Luna - Schatz

    Jamie Luna and Eric Schatz of Terre Haute announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Janet Moreno of Indianapolis and the late Jerry Luna. She is a graduate of Indiana State University with degrees in English and education.
    In the fall she will be an English teacher at Terre Haute South High School.

  • Knox – James

    Kristy Lynn Knox and Doyle Evan James of Tell City, along with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Knox of Hawesville, Ky., and Mr. and Mrs. Cleatus James of Cannelton, and their children, Skyler James, Alexander James, Zachary Scott ad Melissa Scott, announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride-elect is a graduate of Red Mountain High School in California, LaVonne’s Beauty Academy and the University of Phoenix in Mesa, Ariz. She is a licensed nail technician and manicurist.

  • Whistle charged with murder

    PERRY COUNTY - Henry J. Whistle Jr. was charged Tuesday afternoon with murder in the death of his fiancee, Jamie Stowe.

    Indiana State Police and the Perry County Sheriff’s Department were called to a rural northern Perry County residence at 8:14 Sunday night after dispatchers received a call of a woman who had died.

    Police were summoned to 26790 Indiana 37, St. Croix and found Stowe, 31 dead inside the residence. A preliminary investigation reveals that she and Whistle, 36, became involved in a physical altercation.

    JFK Pool to be open Wednesday
    TELL CITY – Due to the Fourth of July holiday Wednesday, the JFK Pool in Tell City will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • 4-H Fair queen, king candidates named

    TELL CITY – Twelve candidates are in the running for this year’s 4-H queen contest and two king candidates will vie for the male’s crown. The competition has each candidate submit an application of their 4-H and community activities, and leadership positions, as well as their interests and future plans.

    The candidates will participate in a private interview and then in a public event at 6:30 p.m. July 6. A fashion revue and auction of baked goods and gift baskets will also be held. For more information, call 547-7084.

  • Early Head Start Day Out

    Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Early Head Start children and their families enjoyed a day out together recently.

  • Younger pageant added to Schweizer Fest line up

    TELL CITY – A pageant for 2- to 8-year-old kids will be added to this year’s Schweizer Fest schedule. This pageant will be held Aug. 5 in the Evangelical United Church of Christ. This pageant is open to boys and girls from Perry and Spencer counties and from Hancock County, Ky.
    Applications can be picked up at Cinderella’s, 922 Main St. Tell City. Age groups will be decided once all applications are turned in. Deadline for applications for both pageants is today by 4 p.m., no exceptions.

  • Herman and Carolyn Theis

    Herman and Carolyn Theis of Tell City celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 23, 2012, with their family.

    Mr. Theis and the former Carolyn Brinksneader were married June 23, 1962, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy. The Rev. Eugene Weidman officiated the ceremony in the presence of family and friends.
    The couple are the parents of Mike Theis and his wife, Terri, Mark and Danny Theis, all of Tell City, Jason Theis of Henryville and Terri (Theis) Shane and her husband, Rick of Kalamazoo, Mich.
