    ST. CROIX – There will be a one-room school reunion Sunday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Parish Hall in St. Croix.
    A carry-in meal will start at noon. Anyone who attended a one-room school is urged to attend. All are welcome to attend.

  • Farmers market to change its location during Schweizer Fest

    TELL CITY – Perry County’s farmers market will change locations next week due to Schweizer Fest activities in City Hall Park.

    The market will be located in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church on the corner of 10th and Mozart streets Wednesday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 11.

    Times remain the same, noon to sellout Wednesday and 7 a.m. to sellout Saturday.

    Once Schweizer Fest is over, the market will return to its regular location in the 700 block of Ninth Street.

  • Schweizer Fest youngsters pageant set for Sunday at EUCC

    TELL CITY – The Schweizer Fest pageant for boys and girls ages 2 to 8 years old will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Evangelical United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and admission is $2 per person.
    Boy candidates in the 2 to 4 year old age group are Connor Sommer, son of Ashley Hill; Kasyn Ingle, son of Kourtney Ingle and Bob Ingle and Kelton Aubrey, son of Ryan and Brandy Aubrey.

    Candidates in the 5 to 8 year old group are August Sommer, son of Ashley Hill, and Curry Parker, son of Beth James and Joe Parker.

    CANNELTON – Conflicting advice from state officials led to the Cannelton School Board authorizing at their July 19 regular meeting the purchase of a regular school bus to pick up students from outside the city.

  • Forage program offers cost-sharing chances for farmers

    PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Soil and Water Conservation District has received a Clean Water Indiana Grant to be used for a cost-sharing program for pasture and land used for hay production.

    The purpose of this cost-share program is to provide technical and financial assistance to Perry County landowners for pasture and hay land planting this fall.

  • Schweizer Fest testimonial dinner to honor Bob Harpenau

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Schweizer Fest Testimonial Dinner to honor Robert “Bob” Harpenau Aug. 9

    The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus, where the social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
    Harpenau is being honored for his 54 years as a Lincoln Financial adviser with a plaque presented by the Schweizer Fest Committee. Bob is also sponsoring the band for the brau garten stage at Schweizer Fest for Thursday evening, The Hiding.

    TELL CITY – Before funding a program or making a donation, grant makers, donors and the public want to know the results.  They may ask about impact or the objectives of a nonprofit’s programs. United Way of Perry County is offering a free workshop for local nonprofits to delve into outcomes measurement in more detail in order to learn how to increase funding.
