  • Tax bills will be on time again this year

    INDIANAPOLIS – Efficient work by county employees left Perry County at the front of the line in getting its 2013 tax rates approved by the state. That means another on-time property-tax deadline of May 10.

    SANTA CLAUS – The Kochs of Santa Claus, Spencer County’s most recognized family, entered 2013 on a legal roller coaster that has left, at least for now, majority control of family-owned Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari in the hands of the widow of the park’s former president.

    Annual Ferdinand prom, bridal expo
    FERDINAND – The 11th annual Ferdinand prom and bridal expo will be held from noon to 4 p.m. EST Jan. 13 at the Ferdinand Community Center.
    More than 30 businesses will be available to help make proms and weddings special. Participants will be able to sample catered foods and cakes. Those attending will also be able to register for prizes.  
    A fashion show will be provided by Cinderella’s of Tell City.

    Brandon Cook and Taylor Lawalin were crowned king and queen at the Cannelton High School homecoming ceremonies Jan. 4 before the varsity basketball game against Crothersville.

  • Changes in Memorial Hospital leadership announced

    JASPER – E. Kyle Bennett has been named chief operating officer of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in an announcement made by Ray Snowden, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer.

  • 10,000 Maniacs to perform at Jasper Arts Center

    JASPER – The original indie rock band, 10,000 Maniacs will perform at the Jasper Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
    10,000 Maniacs is world-renown on the independent rock scene and is touring to promote their latest album, Music from the Motion Picture. This is the second performance in the New Directions series, which is designed to appeal to all audiences but most particularly to 25 to 45 year old patrons.

    First Baptist to host adult Bible study
    CANNELTON – The First Baptist Church in Cannelton will host a free non-denominational adult Bible study from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is for anyone high-school age and older.

  • UMC after-holiday bazaar Saturday

    TELL CITY – The United Methodist Women will host an after-holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tell City First Methodist Church on 10th Street.
    A chicken noodle dinner will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu will include chicken noodles, green beans, salad and a brownie.
    Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 years old and under. Proceeds from the bazaar will go toward raising funds for the UMW scholarship fund.

  • Tell City VFW to mark 79-year anniversary

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will celebrate its 79th anniversary Saturday at the VFW post in Tell City with a dinner and dance.
    The ladies and men’s auxiliary units and VFW members, along with their spouses, are invited to at-tend.
    The carry-in dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. Ev-eryone attending should take a covered dish. The post will furnish the meat.
    After the meal, there will be a short program followed by a dance around 8 p.m. The band Sweetwater will provide the entertainment.
