  • A holiday favorite, 2012 Cannelton Christmas parade set for Friday

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton American Legion and Auxiliary Post 142 will sponsor the annual Cannelton Christmas Parade Friday.

    The event will begin at 6 p.m. with lineup getting under way at 5.

    The parade will start at old Indiana 237 and Seventh Street (Highway 66), head east on Seventh Street, turn south onto Washington Street and will end at the floodwall. There will be an appearance by Santa.

    Businesses, churches and community groups are invited to enter the parade. Awards will be presented in three categories, civic, commercial and community.

  • ‘God’s army’ volunteers needed

    PERRY COUNTY – Volunteers are needed to ring bells for the Salvation Army from Friday through Dec. 24, according to Randy Roccia, kettle coordinator for the help agency.

    “Perhaps you, your family, business, church, club or civic organization would be willing to ring bells for us this season,” he urged. Kettles were placed at each Wal-Mart entrance Friday.

  • Annual plea goes out for red-kettle bell ringers

    PERRY COUNTY – Bells rung at traditional red kettles nationwide last year continued to be heard this year when the Salvation Army sprang into action after Hurricane Sandy.

    “The hurricane flooded all our houses,” says a young boy in a video report linked at salvationarmy.org. “It was up to my neck.”

    TELL CITY – The pastor and preschool director for Community Christian Church notified their students’ parents Oct. 16 their kindergarten program has been challenged by the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp.

  • Library board members to resubmit appointment letters

    TELL CITY – Board members would have to resubmit letters to their appointing bodies, Library Board Director John Mundy explained at the Perry County Public Library board meeting Nov. 7.

    The library will become a new entity Jan. 1, and the board will go back to seven members appointed by the county commissioners, the county council and the Tell City-Troy Township, Perry Central and Cannelton school boards.

  • Parks board may take over National Forest concessions

    CANNELTON – A county official suggested to the Perry County Parks and Recreation Board Wednesday it might want to consider taking charge of concessions and collecting admission fees at area Hoosier National Forest campgrounds.

    County Commissioner Tom Hauser told the board that such a move “would generate revenue” for the parks board and mean “more local control over our parks here.”

  • Cannelton officers earn second statewide award

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Police Department has earned a statewide distinction for the second year in a row.

    Police Chief Lee Hall reported at a meeting of the city’s board of public works and safety Nov. 12 that his officers earned the 2012 Operation Pull Over Best Small Police Department Award from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

    SANTA CLAUS – Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort has launched Rudolph’s Family Christmas Weekends Friday and Saturday nights from Nov. 23 through Dec. 15. 

  • Old National working to educate consumers during International Fraud Awareness Week

    PERRY COUNTY – Old National Bancorp is joining companies throughout the world in an effort to educate and raise awareness about fraud. International Fraud Awareness Week, held Nov. 11 through Nov. 17, comes at a time when organizations worldwide lose an estimated five percent of their annual revenues to fraud, according to a study conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
