  • Hufnagel – Arnold

    Josh and Jodi Hufnagel, of Dale, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Payton Danee’ Hufnagel, to Cody Allen Arnold, son of Todd and Cheryl Arnold of Lamar. The wedding will take place at three o’clock in the afternoon on May 12, 2018 at St Peters United Church of Christ. A reception will follow at the Spencer County Youth and Community Center in Chrisney. Formal invitations have been sent.

    CANNELTON – The city of Cannelton’s historic district is one of the state’s most endangered landmarks. The community is included in Indiana Landmarks’ 10 Most Endangered, an annual list of state landmarks in jeopardy, released this week. The listing includes a college campus, individual buildings, or in Cannelton’s case, a large portion of the city with more than 150 separate structures.

    PERRY COUNTY – A late spring, with consistently cooler temperatures, has caused local farmers and gardeners to adapt, and in most cases, wait.

  • Gatchel resident to take Honor Flight

    PERRY COUNTY – Marvin E. Howell of Gatchel, retired former co-owner of Howell’s Garage Inc., age 85, who served as a U.S. Army corporal  during the Korean Conflict, will be going on the upcoming Honor Flight set for Saturday, May 5. His daughter, Mary R. Howell Miller, who will serve as his guardian during the flight, will also attend. They will join 84 other veterans and their guardians for a once-in-a-lifetime day trip to our nation’s capital to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the war memorials for WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

  • Port names new logistics manager, trainmaster

    TELL CITY – The Tell City River Port and Hoosier Southern Rail has announced the hiring of Jared Kleemann as general manager of operations.

    He takes over office logistics for Kevin Teague who recently left the rail yard for other career opportunities. Teague also served as trainmaster.

    The position of Hoosier Southern trainmaster has been accepted by long-time employee Dave Sabelhaus Jr.

    DALE – Area activists and local citizens concerned or curious about the prospect of a proposed coal-to-diesel plant came together for a public forum Tuesday evening at the Dale Presbyterian Church’s Micah Center.

    ST. MEINRAD – A first responder’s quick action Friday likely saved a woman who was perhaps minutes away from death after the truck she was driving collided with another vehicle and caught fire.

    Police said Daisy Applegate’s westbound GMC truck crossed the centerline of Bristow-St. Meinrad Road near Catnip Road Friday afternoon and crashed nearly head-on into a Chrysler Pacifica driven east by Gordon Taylor, also of Bristow.
