  • Airing on the side of caution:

    TELL CITY – General Electric and its environmental research agency, Arcadis Design, have begun installing air mitigation systems to alleviate ground contamination in homes near the former factory. Work on those systems in homes along the 1400 Block of 13th Street started on Monday by Radon Environmental of Indianapolis. The company was expected to complete two homes that day and continue efforts throughout the week on at least three others.

  • New garden club forms at Twilight Towers

    Gardening is a hobby everyone can enjoy, including seniors. Planting a garden and seeing it grow is rewarding within itself, but the activity of gardening also has many other benefits.

    Raised bed gardens allow residents to come together and do something they enjoy. This not only allows seniors to reap the health benefits of gardening, but also gives them the opportunity to make new friendships and stay connected to those around them.

  • Cheers to the Rome Courthouse

    Despite the heat and afternoon rain, Rome’s beer, wine and music fest was a hit Saturday.

    Part of a year-long celebration of the town courthouse’s bicentennial, the day included food, music, craft beer and locally made wine. Proceeds will support courthouse maintenance.

  • Restroom at Mano Point to close

    DERBY –A restroom maintained by the U.S. Forest Service at Mano Point will close this summer.

    According to District Ranger Chris Zimmer, the facility , which first opened in 2006, is located in a floodplain, and during recent floods, wastewater overflowed into the Ohio River.

    As the boat ramp at Mano Point has recently been closed and with other restroom facilities available at nearby gas stations, he said the logical solution is to cease operations .

    PERRY COUNTY – Despite the summer vacation, the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. and Cannelton City Schools are keeping their cafeterias running with the Summer Food Service Program. So far Tell City School has been receiving a good turn-out, serving approximately 150 people daily for lunch in Tell City.

  • ‘Main Street’ designation sought in Cannelton

    CANNELTON – The city of Cannelton and the historic preservation group, Renew Cannelton, are moving forward with an application to become a state recognized Indiana Main Street community. The designation would help the city and individual owners of historic properties qualify for funding to help revitalize the old structures in Cannelton.

  • Civil War headstone dedication planned for June 24 at Tobinsport

    On a crisp fall day, Sunday, Nov. 5, to be exact, four Civil War headstones were installed at two cemeteries near Tobinsport. Three headstones were placed at Simon Cemetery on State Road 166 and a fourth at Lamb Cemetery located at the corner of Highwater and Tobinsport Roads.
