• Cannelton pre-kindergarten, kindergarten pre-registration event set for Wednesday

    CANNELTON – A pre-enrollment-registration schedule for prospective pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2015-16 school year will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15.

    A parent or guardian of any prospective or currently enrolled pre-k or kindergarten student should visit the office at the William Bennett Early Learning Center at 411 Washington St. in Cannelton. 

    Pre-k students must be 3 years of age by Aug. 11, and must be toilet trained.

  • WTE disability-awareness fundraiser raises $5,000 for autism training

    TELL CITY – Because of successful Disability Awareness Month fundraisers and activities, Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. will be able to donate $5,000 for “Hands in Autism” training planned in Perry County this summer.

    The training will be for special-education teachers, with evening sessions for parents. School corporations in Perry, Spencer and Dubois counties are raising money to bring the training to this area.

  • Perry Central announces snow make-up plan

    LEOPOLD – Due to the number of snow days experienced by Perry Central Community School this winter, the Indiana Department of Education has approved the following schedule for the remainder of the school year.

    School will be in session Monday, April 6 (today), with extended hours. Today through Thursday, May 7, school will begin 15 minutes earlier and buses will depart 15 minutes later in the afternoon. The morning bus schedule will remain the same since students arrive on campus earlier than the current instructional day begins.

    LEOPOLD – The Lincoln Hills Development Corp. North Perry Head Start and Early Head Start are currently taking applications for enrollment for the 2015-16 school year.

    On Friday, April 10, interested family or community members are invited to attend an open house between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children may be enrolled at this time or just visit to learn more about Head Start. The North Perry Head Start Center is located next to Perry Central Community School in Leopold.

    Tuesday: BREAKFAST - Blueberry muffin LUNCH - Corn dog, baked beans, peaches.

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Brescia University William R. Young Jr. Lecture Series will present Ph.D. Temple Grandin at 7 p.m. April 9 at St. Stephen Cathedral. This event is free and open to the public.

    Grandin is an innovator, author and activist and is considered one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the world. Grandin is considered a philosophical leader of both the animal-welfare and autism-advocacy movements.

  • Shane Weedman earns dean’s list honor at IUS

    CANNELTON – Shane Weedman, son of Jimmy and Robin Weedman of Cannelton, was recently awarded recognition on the Indiana University Southeast dean’s list for fall semester.

    Weedman is currently a senior and earned the distinction for his high scholastic achievement.

  • American Legion Ladies Auxiliary scholarship deadline Wednesday

    TELL CITY – Tell City American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 213 is accepting scholarship applications for two $500 scholarships to be awarded to Perry County students.

    To be eligible, applicants must have a parent or grandparent who is a member of the American Legion Post 213 or Unit 213, or be a junior member of the Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion member for the past two years and have current dues paid.
