  • Education pays accepting loan applications

    TELL CITY – The Board of Directors of Education Pays Student Loan Fund of Tell City/Perry County has announced it is accepting applications for interest-free loans to be awarded to students pursuing a post-high school education for the fall, 2019, semester. Applications are available at the offices of the guidance counselors at Cannelton, Perry Central and Tell City High Schools. The deadline for submitting applications is June 1.

  • Hamrick honored with Ivy Tech Student Excellence award

    EVANSVILLE – Lisa Hamrick, an Ivy Tech Community College Evansville Campus student, formerly of Perry county, was honored with an award for excellence by the Indiana Department of Education at the Indiana Government Center Auditorium in Indianapolis.

    Hamrick was nominated by Donna Zimmerman, program chair for Advanced Automation and Robotics. She said Hamrick is a driven student who gives her all to whatever challenge is placed before her.

  • Local IU Southeast student recognized at art showcase

    NEW ALBANY – Perry County native, Carly Jarboe, will showcase a series of her paintings called “the One Who Breaks the Darkness” at the Barr Gallery on the campus of Indiana University Southeast, New Albany on March 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. EST. Carly states that within this series she discovered the light in her personal darkness. This moment can be seen both literally and figuratively in all her works through the use of saturated color and dramatic light. It is her greatest desire that the viewer finds a peaceful moment amid the storm just as she has.

    LEOPOLD – Commodore Manufacturing, a program for students at Perry Central High School interested in vocational fields, is offering an opportunity for students to continue projects from this school year and advance their skills this summer while earning a salary. Commodore Manufacturing is a work-based learning opportunity created during the 2017-2018 school year for students interested in the Advanced Manufacturing pathway.

  • Cannelton Schools wants off financial watch list

    CANNELTON – It took years to crawl out of debt, and now Cannelton City Schools are hoping its done enough. The School Corporation is expecting an audit by the Indiana State Board of Accounts, which could result in removal from a watch list of failing financial institutions. Cannelton schools have been on the list since 2012. Schools at risk to fail and close down are put on watch list status.

    Life often has something in store for you that dramatically changes the course of your future forever. The Schergens family planted its roots in Tell City in the mid 1800s. My father, William John Schergens, or Bill as he was called by everyone except his mother, was the second of two sons of Mari and William Schergens.

  • Perry Central students take gold and silver at state

    LEOPOLD – It was an early morning for a group of six dedicated band members from Perry Central High School Saturday, Feb. 23. They took the long drive to Indianapolis to impress the judges and crowds with solo performances at the Indiana State School Music Educator solo and ensemble contest. And they did impress, netting three gold and four silver honors.
