  • Memorial Hospital earns award for patient experience

    JASPER  – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper has achieved the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Memorial Hospital has received this designation for 10 years in a row.

    The 2018 distinction recognizes Memorial Hospital among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

  • GAB named bankers association Five Star Member

    JASPER – German American Bank has been honored as a Five Star Member of the Indiana Bankers Association. The award was presented on May 2 at the IBA Mega Conference in downtown Indianapolis, in recognition of German American Bank’s association involvement throughout 2017.

    The Five Star Member designation recognizes those IBA-member banks which demonstrate outstanding commitment to the association in five areas: political awareness, issues advocacy, life-long learning, IBA volunteerism, and Preferred Service Provider utilization.

  • A farewell to a PCMH resource

    TELL CITY – Sheila Gaynor, above left, was the guest of honor during a retirement reception held Wednesday at the Moose. Gaynor recently called it a career after 44 years with Perry County Memorial Hospital. Starting as a business clerk in 1972, a position she recalled paying her a beginning wage of $1.85, she left the hospital for a brief period in 1978 before returning the following year as a payroll clerk. Gaynor rose to become a payroll supervisor in 1993, and in 1996 was appointed the director of human resources, a position she’s held ever since.

  • Youth Conservation Corps accepting applications for Lincoln Boyhood Memorial

    LINCOLN CITY – Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is accepting applications for the National Park Service Youth Conservation Corps program for the summer of 2018. YCC employees will mostly provide trail resurfacing and repairs work.

    The YCC program is a well-balanced, work-learn-earn program, which develops an understanding and appreciation of the Nation’s environment and heritage. Administered by the National Park Service, the program offers gainful summer employment to young people in a healthful, outdoor atmosphere.

    The Congressional Budget Office came out with their 10-year economic and budget projections earlier this month. The CBO is nonpartisan, which means they don’t have a political axe to grind. They’re just trying to get the right answer.

    The report is usually issued in January, but it was delayed this year because of the big tax cut in December. It took a while to figure out the effects of this big policy change. Let’s look at the CBO’s projections, and what they might mean.

  • Old National reports record quarter income

    EVANSVILLE – Old National Bancorp reported net income of $48 million for the first quarter of 2018 and adjusted net income of $51.2 million. The Evansville-based banking company’s net income showed an increase of 33.3 percent from the first quarter of 2017. Earnings per share were 31 cents, an increase of 14.8 percent from the same period last year.

    PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce invites individuals to learn more about SCORE, a business mentoring program. Volunteers with business experience are sought to become mentors to small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs.
