  • ST. MEINRAD – The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada has awarded an innovation grant to produce a Spanish-language curriculum for permanent deacon formation. Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana and Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology of Seton Hall University in New Jersey will collaborate on the project.

  • Tell City – The Ugandan Kids Choir, a group of 10 talented Ugandan children, has announced that they will perform at Community Christian Church at 821 10th St. at 10 a.m. Sept. 17.

    All 10 children have been given hope through Childcare Worldwide’s Sponsorship Program and now they are here to spread that hope to audiences all across the United States. The choir has performed nationwide at churches, schools, at Disneyland, on King 5 Television’s “New Day Northwest,” at Qwest Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.

    I have a good friend who recently told me a story that I had to pass on to you guys.

    My friend is now a devout Christian, but it wasn’t always so. At age 18, he quit going to church and he didn’t go back until his early 50s.

    During his absence, he did some things that he wouldn’t want printed on the front page of this renowned tabloid. Haven’t we all?

  • Jenifer Lynn Forler and Jeremiah John Foertsch of Evanston announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    Jenifer is the daughter of Larry and Mary Forler of St. Meinrad. She is a 2014 graduate of Heritage Hills High School and graduated from Harrison College with a degree in medical office assisting. She is currently employed at Best Chairs.

  • Sarah Marie Elrhanjaoui of Greenfield, Ohio, and Jordan Lee Rhodes of Tell City announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    The bride is the daughter of Chris and Michelle Houck and Ali Elrhanjaoui. She is a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. She recently earned her Masters of Education and teaches fifth-grade reading and language at J. S. Aucion in St. Mary Parish, La.  She is also the head swim coach for Centerville High School.

  • Stephanie Groves and Bryan Taylor were united in marriage on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy. The Rev. Dennis Duvelius presided at the 2 p.m. double-ring ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Dean and Melissa Groves of Tell City. The groom is the son of Tom and Debbie McCart and Grant and Gayle Taylor, all of Tell City.

    Matrons of honor were Amanda Fisher of Tell City, cousin of the bride, and Amy Kleeman of Tell City, a friend of the bride.

  • Floretta and Larry Beatty of Tell City celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Sunday at a family gathering hosted by their daughter and her family.   

    They were married Sept. 14, 1957, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City. 

    The couple has two children, Darla (Chris) Goffinet of Tell City, and the late Marcia (Bill) Barth of Louisville, Ky. 

    Grandchildren are Lauren (Brittany Roark), Sarah and Reed Goffinet and Dylan, Conor and Colin Barth. 

  • Breyan Underhill and Tyler Ayer of Evanston announce the birth of a daughter, Adaelynn Rae Ayer, on Aug. 18, 2017, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

    She weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces.

    Grandparents are Roger and Stacey Lawalin of Lamar, Keith and Crystal Underhhill of Doolittle Mills, Camilla Ayer and Harold Brothwell of Santa Claus, Janet Peters of Evanston and the late Kevin Ayer.

  • Heather Hubert of Bristow and Jacob Sims of Tell City announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride is the daughter of Leonard and Melinda Hubert of Bristow. She is a graduate of Perry Central High School and Vincennes University Jasper Campus. Heather is currently a nurse for Wexford Health at Branchville Correctional Facility.

    The groom is the son of Nicole Sims of Tell City. He is a graduate of Perry Central High School and is employed at Best Home Furnishings.

  • ST. MEINRAD – The Board of Overseers welcomes a new member, a returning member and an emeritus member to the advisory board for Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

    The board advises President-Rector Fr. Denis Robinson OSB on matters related to the school’s programs and performance and addresses strategic questions related to the future of the school. Each member serves a three-year term.

     Joining the board are Fr. Gary Kastl, Mary Schaffner and Charles Gardner.
