  • Gene and Janet Hurm will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 18, 2018. A vacation is planned for a later date.

    Gene Hurm and Janet Dupps were married on May 18, 1968, by Father Ted Tempel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

    They are the parents of two sons, Scott (Shirley) Hurm of Jasper and Shaun (Teresa) Hurm of Carmel. They have five grandchildren.

    Mr. Hurm retired as safety director at Mulzer Crushed Stone. Mrs. Hurm retired from German American Bank.

    A friend of mine, Jim Adkins, asked me to help his father-in-law take a copy of his book, “Wild Taste of Nature,” and format it so it could be published through CreateSpace. The book had been printed years before with Xerox copied pages and a cardstock cover. This is how I meet its author, Irv Rueger.

  • Trevor Nelson, son of John Nelson and Barbara (Brian) Steen, and Stella Young, daughter of Cindy Gadson, would like to announce their engagement and upcoming nuptials.

    The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Monkey Hollow Winery with the couple’s reception following at the Tell City American Legion.

  • Wesley and Ashley Zellers of Boonville announce the birth of their daughter, Paige Louise Zellers, born Feb. 9, 2018, at Women’s Hospital at Deaconess Gateway.

    She weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

    Paige is welcomed home by sister, Madilynn Jean, age 18 months.

    Paternal grandparents are Denny and Carol Zellers of Cannelton. Maternal grandparents are Mark and Faith Muston of Indianapolis.

  • Jared Lock and Samantha Johnson of Tobinsport announce the birth of their daughter, Emma Sue Lock. Emma was born at 4:50 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2017, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.

    Emma is welcomed home by a sister Hayleigh Lock, age 7.

    Grandparents are Dale and Cathy Lock, Sharlyn Johnson (Matt Hollis) and Brian and Anita Johnson. Great grandparents are the late Myra and John Faulkenberg, the late Enoch Royer Jr. and the late Roger and Mae Lock, Charles and Yvonne McIntosh and the late Sharon McIntosh,  Wanda Johnson and the late Jerry Johnson.

  • TELL CITY – The Lafayette Spring Daughters of the American Revolution honored the winners of their recent patriotic essay contests and Good Citizen recognition program at a tea on Sunday, April 8, held at St. Paul Church at 1 p.m. American History Chairman, Patsy Alvey, and Good Citizen Chairman, Charlena Williams, welcomed the attendees and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The winners’ family, friends, teachers and administrators were recognized and thanked for their support of all the students.

  • Guild rummage sale May 5

    TELL CITY – Emmanuel Women’s Guild will have their spring rummage sale on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 8 a.m. This is held in Lutheran Church hall at 12th street and Pestalozzi.

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

  • ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is hosting an exhibit of mixed media paintings by Louisville, Ky., artist Laurie Doctor. The show will run through May 14. Doctor is an accomplished painter and calligrapher who teaches workshops in the United States and Europe.
