    We enjoyed sweet potatoes all winter long from a fantastic harvest last fall. In fact, I still have a crate full in the basement that will feed us this summer. I planted out about 25 organic slips purchased from Country Corner Greenhouse in Shepherdsville in late May and by early November, we had four nursery crates full of one of nature’s perfect foods. Seven months and counting in storage with no spoilage is impressive.

Because Vietnam was the war that was going on while I was in high school, the first memorial on my list was the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Even though I never knew anyone killed in Vietnam, I wanted an rubbing of one of the names.

  • Blake Bumm and Breanna Sanders of Cannelton wish to announce their engagement and approaching wedding. The ceremony will be held at Monkey Hollow Winery on Sept. 29, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. followed by a reception at Fulda Sportsmen Club.

    Breanna is the daughter of Tammy (Hedinger) Sturgeon and John Sanders, both of Troy. Breanna is a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and is employed as an industrial nurse at ATTC Manufacturing.

  • PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Courtney McDaniel and Preston Rogers of Panama City, Fla., announce the birth of their son, Dawson Thomas-Cole Rogers. Born on June 22, 2018, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Dawson weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long.

    He was welcomed home by a sister, Kennedy Shay Rogers, age 2.

  • Barry and Earlena Poole of Hawesville, Ky., and Alan and Nancy Schroeder of Tell City announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their children, Amanda Lee Poole and Alex Raymond Schroeder.

    Amanda is a 2006 graduate of Hancock County High School and is employed at Hancock Health in Lewisport, Ky. Alex is a 2009 graduate of Perry Central Jr.-Sr. High School, and a 2011 graduate from Vincennes University and is employed at the Perry County Highway Department.

  • TELL CITY – Brandy N. McDaniel of Tell City announces the birth of her daughter, Mandalyn Grace McDaniel. Born on June 22, 2018, at Deaconess Womens Hospital in Evansville, Mandalyn weighed 5 pounds 7.3 ounces and was 17 inches long.

    She was welcomed home by her brother, Tristan McDaniel, age 7.

    Mandalyn’s grandparents are Brenda McDaniel of Tell City and Robert and Lisa McDaniel of Jasper. Her great-grandparents are George Parr Sr. and the late Rose Ann Parr of Tell City; and the late Mary McDaniel of Rockport.

  • Charles and Wanda Edwards of Tell City will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Sept. 4, 2018.

    Mr. Edwards and Wanda Lampkin were married Sept. 4, 1948, in Hawesville, Ky.

    Mr. Edwards is retired from Edwards Logging and Mrs. Edwards retired from Buehlers.

    The Edwards are the parents of Jeff Edwards (Carolyn) and the late Lisa Edwards; the grandparents of three grandchildren, who are, the late Charles (CJ) Edwards, Ashley Hall (David) and Nick Edwards (Bailey); and have two great-granddaughters, Kylee and Madison Hall.

  • Daisy and Cletus James of Tell City celebrated their 65-year wedding anniversary on Aug. 4, 2018, at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Denny Howe.

    Mr. James and former Daisy Harper were married Aug. 8, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby.

    The couple has eight children, Mary Beertzer of Cannelton, Roger James of Cannelton, Donnie James of Tell City, Kathy Clayton of Tell City, Lana Howe of Leopold, Sheila Leisman of Ferdinand, Kevin James of Cannelton and Doyle James of Hawesville, Ky.
