    We enjoyed sweet potatoes all winter long from a fantastic harvest last fall. In fact, I still have a crate full in the basement that will feed us this summer. I planted out about 25 organic slips purchased from Country Corner Greenhouse in Shepherdsville in late May and by early November, we had four nursery crates full of one of nature’s perfect foods. Seven months and counting in storage with no spoilage is impressive.

  • My name is Janna Hoehn, I am a 28-year resident of Maui, Hawaii. Eight years ago, my husband and I made our first trip to Washington, D.C. Because Vietnam was the war that was going on while I was in high school, the first memorial on my list was the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Even though I never knew anyone killed in Vietnam, I wanted an rubbing of one of the names.

  • Steve and Judy Houghland of Fulda will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 26, 2018, with a Mass of Celebration at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 5 p.m. A reception will follow at the Fulda Sportsman Club. Dinner will be served around 6 p.m. All family and friends are welcome.

    Steve and Judy are the parents of Braden Houghland of Louisville, Ky., and Lydia Houghland of Owensboro, Ky. They also have one grandson, Wayde Allen Barber of Owensboro, Ky.

    The couple was married on May 27, 1978, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church.

  • TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary has recognized students achieving academic excellence in the third grading period.

  • Tiffany and John Nugent Jr. are proud to announce the birth of their son, Kyler Eugene Nugent, born at 8:17 p.m. on April 8, 2018, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was 9 pounds, 3 ounces and was 22 inches long.

    Kyler’s grandparents are David and Diana Sabelhaus from Bristow and John Nugent Sr. and the late Shirley Nugent of Tell City.

    Great-grandparents are Richard and Noreida Paulin; Gertrude Sabelhaus and the late Raymond Sabelhaus; Rosella Wilson and the late Clarence Wilson; and the late Nancy Meserve.

  • Dave and Virlee (Reggie) Huffman of New Boston are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Huffman and the former Virlee Riehle were married on May 18, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

    The couple have four children, Angie Huffman of Jasper, Ashley (Kenneth) Moffitt of St. Meinrad, Keith (Libbi) Huffman of Evanston and Kevin (Crissy) Huffman of Dale. Dave and Virlee have 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    Both are retired from the North Spencer School Corp.

  • Courtney Lawson and Jason Turner are proud to announce the birth of their son, Abel Leo Paul, born on March 23, 2018, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City. He was seven pounds and five ounces, measuring 19 inches.

    Able is welcome home by siblings Alexis Turner, age 10; Brayden Lawson, 9, and Brynleigh Lawson, 5.

    Grandparents are Candy Cameron, Jeff Lawson, Carol  Turner and the late Paul Turner, all of Tell City.
