  • Kids’ talents on display during street car parade

    TELL CITY – Youngsters’ creativity will be on display Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, during the Schweizer Fest Street Car Parade.

    Registration of street-car entries will begin at 6:45 p.m. in front of Hauenstein’s in the 500 block of Main Street.

    The parade will start at 7:30 p.m. from the corner of Main and Franklin streets and will advance up Main Street to City Hall Park. Prizes will be awarded to contestants in various age categories around 7:45 p.m.

  • Kaffee Klatch breakfast returns Wednesday

    Epsilon Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa will host its traditional Kaffee Klatch breakfast for the 40th year Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Evangelical United Church of Christ.

    Breakfast will begin this year at 7 a.m. and continue until 10. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12. Younger children can eat for free.   • Talk to an attorney for free Aug. 7

    EVANSVILLE –The next talk-to-a-lawyer telephone clinic is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Volunteer attorneys will be available to answer general legal questions at no charge.  To contact the clinic, call (888) 594-3449.

    Talk to a Lawyer is a service sponsored by Volunteer Lawyer Program of Southwestern Indiana, Indiana Bar Foundation and the Evansville Bar Foundation.

  • Aug. 26 workshop set for goat, sheep producers

    TELL CITY – A workshop explaining a diagnostic test to help small rumninant producers identify animals that reqiure working treatment is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Perry County 4-H Fairgrounds in Tell City. Cost is $20 per family.

  • First Methodist to host 5K, 10K run-walk

    TELL CITY – The Tell City First United Methodist Church will hold its 2nd annual 5K and 10K beginning at 8 a.m. Sept. 20. Participants should register at the back church parking lot near 11th and Mozart streets.

    Routes for both groups will begin on 11th Street with 5K runners heading north and 10K participants going south.

  • Schweizer Fest annual bench-press competition returns Aug. 9

    TELL CITY – EverBody’s will hold its annual Schweizer Fest bench press contest at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. Weigh-ins will start at 9 a.m.

    Entry fee will be $20 if registered by Aug. 2 or $25 after Aug. 2. This will also guarantee a T-shirt.

    Competitors must be at least 15 years old to compete. Those under 18 years old will need a parent or guardian’s signature to participate.

    Historical society picnic today

    TELL CITY – The annual summer picnic for the Tell City Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Moose Lodge in Tell City.

    The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. Chicken and drinks will be furnished and members are asked to take a covered dish.

  • Strassenfest accepting photos for baby contest through Wednesday

    JASPER – La Leche League is now accepting pictures for their annual baby photo contest during the Jasper Strassenfest. Photos will be accepted through Wednesday, July 30 or until all 96 entry spaces are filled.  

    Strassenfest baby-photo contestants should be individual or a sibling group between 0 and 36-months-old on July 1. All photographs will be returned.  

  • American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors rally Aug. 2

    PERRY COUNTY – American Legion posts in Spencer County will sponsor a benefit rally Saturday, Aug. 2, for the American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors program, which provides aid to wounded veterans.

    Jeeps and motorcycles can participate. The cost to register will be $15 and includes one free meal per entry.

    Additional meals will cost $10.

    Registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Meinrad Legion Home Post 366 or call Sylvan May at (812) 719-8056 or send email to jillvanhoosier@yahoo.com to preregister.

  • Perry Central back-to-school cookout set for Aug. 5

    LEOPOLD – The annual Perry Central back-to-school cookout will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 in the school cafetorium.

    The event will include school-readiness booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses, including bus rides for incoming preschoolers and tech support for a Skyward, a new family-school connection computer program.

    There will also be inflatables and entertainment by the Perry Central band and cheerleaders. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be served.
