  • William Tell triathlon Saturday

    William Tell Elementary School will host its annual Kids’ Triathlon for Grades 1-6 on Saturday, May 11. The Tell City Police Department will close and patrol Tell Street from 9 to 10:15 a.m. The triathlon has been set up for the students to run, bike and swim.  They will run from William Tell Elementary to the Tell City Public Library.  At the library they will ride their bikes to Tell City Jr-Sr High School where they will swim up to 50 yards in the pool.

    Typhoons tryouts tonight


    TELL CITY – The Tri-County Swim Club will host tryouts Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 4:45 at Tell City Jr. Sr. High School. The season begins Monday, May 6. Anyone 18 years old or younger interested in joining should attend one of the sessions and sign up. More information can be found at tricountytyphoons@gmail.com.

    Veterans Café at Oakwood Tuesday


    TELL CITY – Oakwood Health Campus and Kindred Hospice will host a breakfast for all veterans or military personnel in the local community on Tuesday, April 30, at 9 a.m. in the assisted living dining area to show that staff are proud to serve those who have served us.

    This will be a monthly breakfast held the last Tuesday of each month giving veterans the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and to socialize over breakfast.

  • Legion Auxiliary poppy days May 2-4

    PERRY COUNTY – Red crepe paper poppies will be available Thursday through Saturday, May 2-4, at two Tell City locations, Noble’s IGA and Walmart. Poppy sales will begin at 8 a.m.

    The poppies are reminders of the sacrifices of the thousands of service members in all wars.

    The program is an annual event sponsored by members of Tell City’s American Legion 213 Auxiliary.

    Volunteers will take part in the nation-wide program in memory of the citizen soldiers who gave their lives in the cause of freedom.

  • ‘Almost, Maine’ opens at Perry Central May 9

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central High School will present “Almost, Maine,” a play by John Cariani, on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Perry Central High School in Leopold.

    Tickets will be $8.

  • Community Events; April 22

    Writers workshop at the library Tuesday


    TELL CITY – A writer’s group will meet on Tuesday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Perry County Public Library in Tell City.

    Writers are encouraged to take a sample of their writing. Rough drafts and outlines are fine to use for discussion. The group is aiming to have monthly meetings to see how members’ writing grows and improves. Anyone who wishes to discuss a writing sample or who is interested in improving his or her writing is welcome to attend.

  • Rome Community Center to host ‘Hoosiers & Their Hooch’ exhibit

    ROME – The Rome Community Center will host Hoosiers & Their Hooch: Perspectives on Prohibition, one of the Indiana Historical Society’s traveling exhibits, on Sunday, April 28, at the Rome Dogwood Festival. The exhibit, featuring the rise and fall of prohibition in Indiana and throughout the country, will be on display at the 1818 Rome Courthouse located in Rome, Indiana.

  • Historical society meeting April 22

    TELL CITY – The next membership meeting of the Tell City historical society will be Monday, April 22, at Twilight Towers. The program will be about local retired teachers. Bring leftover Easter chocolate and join in.

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is selling geraniums provided by VIP Foliage. Geraniums are $3.50 and are available in red, pink, salmon and white. Orders will be taken until April 19 with pick up dates of April 30 and May 1. Contact auxiliary president Donna Harpenau at (812) 547-2774 or any auxiliary member to place an order.
