  • Dale cookoff set for June 25

    DALE – Abe Lincoln American Legion Post 444 in Dale will host a barbecue cookoff and area teams are encouraged to enter.
    First-, second- and thirdplace trophies will be awarded in two categories. The event will be held in Dale Town Park June 25. Entry fee is $25 per category of pork ribs or pork butt.
    Entry deadline is June 17. All entries must be turned in at the post home, located at 300 East Medcalf Street in Dale, no later than 9 p.m. June 17.

  • JFK pool now open

    TELL CITY – The JFK Pool in Tell City is now open for the season. Pool hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
    Admission is $2.50 for anyone 4 years of age and older; children under 4 are admitted for free.
    Pool parties are available again this season. Public lessons will begin June 21 and will cost $40 for the first child in a family, $35 for the second and so on. Lessons are on a first-come, first-served basis.
    To register for lessons or book a party, call the pool at 719-2876.

  • Local June golf scrambles

    Southern Indiana Republican golf scramble June 14
    SANTA CLAUS – The Southern Indiana Republicans of Dubois, Perry and Spencer counties will host a golf scramble June 14 at the Christmas Lake Country Club.
    Tee off time is set for 12:30 p.m.
    There will be a shotgun start for the four-person scramble and dinner will be provided afterward.
    Cost is $400 per team or $100 for a single-person registration. Mulligans will be available at the tournament.
    Hole sponsorships are available for $100.

  • Applications for Miss Schweizer Fest Pageant available at Cinderella’s

    PERRY COUNTY – Applications for the Miss Schweizer Fest or Junior Miss Schweizer Fest pageant are available now.
    Through July 10, possible contestants can pick up the applications at Cinderella’s in Tell City from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

    TELL CITY – It’s summer reading season and the Tell City-Perry County Public Library will begin the “Yacky Doodle” summer reading Club June 13.
    The staff is planning lots of activities for summer readers and encourages children up to the sixth graders to visit the library to participate.

  • Kid’s fishing derby at Patoka

    BIRDSEYE – Grab your friends, family, fishing pole, tackle and bait, and head over to Patoka Lake from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4 for the annual Kid’s Fishing Derby.
    Participants will meet at the Modern Campground Center Shelterhouse to begin registration and then take a short stroll down to the fishing pond. This event is for children 12 years of age and under and who are accompanied by an adult.

  • Cars for a Cure show June 4

    ROCKPORT – Honey Creek Farms off Highway 231 near the AEP Power Plant in Rockport will host a Cars for a Cure car show Saturday, June 4, in conjunction with the Relay for Life of Spencer County.
    Registration for the show will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $15 for pre-registration and $20 the day of the show. Judging will start at noon and awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Awards will include people’s choice best of show, top 25 people’s choice and dash plaques to the first 50 registered cars.
