  • Kids Fishing Derby Saturday

    TELL CITY – Hoosier National Forest staff invites the community to the 19th annual Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, held at German Ridge Pond within the German Ridge Recreation Area off State Road 66.

    The event is free and will be open to all children ages 15 and under. Parking will be available in the campground and day-use areas. Staff will be on-site to assist with parking.

    Participants may walk or be shuttled from the parking areas to the fishing pond.

  • Safe Sitter Class offered June 5

    TELL CITY – A Safe Sitter babysitting class will be held Thursday, June 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Perry County EMS building.

    The class is designed for 11- to 13-year-olds to learn safety for the sitter, basic childcare skills, how to entertain children, babysitting as a business, CPR skills and what to do if a child chokes.

    Class fee is $30 per student with partial scholarships available based on need. Registration and payment are due by May 19.  Class size is limited.

    Bingo at Legion Monday
    CANNELTON – In addition to its regular Friday-night bingo, the Legion will host bingo starting at 6 p.m. Monday, May 19.

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior-Senior High School Renaissance class invites everyone to attend the Rock of A’s academic pep rally at 8:15 a.m. Friday in the school auditorium.  

  • Ride to Remember for Jarvis, Schnell

    PERRY COUNTY – The Indiana Patriot Guard Riders will honor two Perry County fallen heroes during a Ride to Remember Sunday, May 18.

    The ride will honor Sgt. 1st Class Barry E. Jarvis, who was killed in Afghanistan Nov. 29, 2010, during Operation Enduring Freedom, by a lone gunman from the Afghan Border Police.

    Also honored will be Seaman Apprentice Shayna Ann Schnell, who died Oct. 1, 2007, as a result of a motor- vehicle accident in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

    She was a 2006 graduate of Perry Central High School.

    THE WOMEN'S GUILD at Evangelical United Church of Christ will meet at 1 p.m. today in the fellowship hall. President Mona Lehman will preside.

    will serve as coffee social hostess from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Evangelical United Church of Christ in the fellowship hall. The public is invited.

  • Annexation meeting scheduled today at former junior high school

    TELL CITY – People opposed to an annexation of their property by Tell City will meet at 6 p.m. today at the former Tell City Junior High School building on Mozart Street.

    The Tell City Common Council voted unanimously April 7 to annex 1,776 acres. Opponents have organized and set up a “Citizens Against Annexation” Facebook page and a bank account to accept donations toward a possible legal fight.

    Little Pigeon Baptist gospel sing May 17

    LAMAR – Little Pigeon Baptist Church in Lamar will hold a meal and gospel sing Saturday, May 17 at the church. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. and singing by “The Woodsmen” will begin at 7 p.m. All are invited and welcome.

    Yoga in the Park Saturday
    TELL CITY – EverBody’s Fun and Fitness Center will hold Yoga in the Park at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at Sunset Park. Instructor Jennifer Land will lead the class.

    Mats will be provided to those who need them. The class is free but donations will be accepted.

  • Lace up the running shoes for Mother’s Day 5K

    TELL CITY – The Run For Your Mother 5K run-walk will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday in front of the Depot.

    Participants will run or walk in honor of their mothers for this Mother’s Day event.

    An ad in the Perry County News following the event will state participants’ names followed by the phrase “ran for his or her mother.”  

    All participants will receive T-shirts with the “Run For Your Mother” logo.

    ­THE DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA will host a mother-daughter-friend carry-in dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the St. Paul Catholic Church parish hall. All members are asked to take a covered dish.
