    Rome music, beer and wine fest on June 9; Derby fireworks show, other activities July 7

    PERRY COUNTY – The riverside communities of Rome and Derby will host big community celebrations, respectively, in June and July, showcasing their history, heritage and civic spirit.

  • Heritage Days this weekend at Rockport’s Lincoln Pioneer Village

    ROCKPORT – The Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum will host its annual spring Heritage Days Rendezvous from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Rockport City Park. The village will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until it closes for winter.

  • Finalists announced for country showdown

    JASPER – Anticipation and excitement is higher than ever as aspiring country music artists prepare for the 37th annual WBDC country showdown, held at the Jasper Arts Center on Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m.

    Thirteen acts from across the region are performing this year, with a few returning and several making their showdown debut. Each is vying to win over $1,000 in cash and prizes.

    The acts taking the stage in this year’s showdown are:

  • Farmers market returns June 2

    TELL CITY – Tell City’s twice-weekly farmers market will return to the Tell City Depot beginning June 2.

    Hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Vendors are welcome to sell locally grown fruits and vegetables. This year’s market will be adding a local beef and pork producer. For more information, call (812) 547-7933.

  • Libraries ready to ‘rock and read’ this summer

    TELL CITY – Time away from school means it’s time for Perry County Public Library Libraries ROCK! and the Summer Reading 2018 Summer Activities programs.

    Starting with Libraries ROCK!, readers of all ages will explore all things musical this summer as the library presents “Libraries Rock” during the summer activities.

    Activities may include group games, musical crafts, art projects, musical instruments, dance, learning about different musical genres, and more.

  • Dates Set for 8th annual St. Meinrad ROCKS! Fest

    ST. MEINRAD – Inkspot Productions LLC has announced the dates for the eighth annual St. Meinrad ROCKS! Fest. The 2018 benefit event will be held at the St. Meinrad Park on Sept. 21 and 22.

    This year’s event will again feature a beer garden, children’s activities, flea market and music by approximately 20 acts, both bands and solo acts, both returning favorites and newcomers. Concessions and merchandise will also be sold. The complete weekend schedule will be announced at a later date.

  • State Parks’ spring social media photo contest underway

    INDIANAPOLIS – Celebrate spring and show off your photography skills by participating in the Indiana State Parks spring photo contest on social media.

    
Prizes to be awarded include a $100 State Park Inns gift card for the highest vote-getter, and a 2018 annual pass, annual lake permit, horse permit or off-road cycling permit for the top 10 runners-up. There will also be a random drawing for winners of 20 one-day passes.

  • Perry County Beekeepers to meet May 17

    LEOPOLD – Want to know which flowers the honeybees are using? Have questions about managing swarms?

    Join the Perry County Beekeepers  organization at their next meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 17,  at the FFA Building at Perry Central. Bill Gibson and Steve Hahus will discuss which plants are good sources of pollen and nectar for bees during the spring honey flow, and Bill will discuss catching swarms and general swarm management.
