    TELL CITY – Join Catholic Charities for the 3rd annual Taste & Share on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Schergens Center in Tell City.

  • Library to host Art of Knitting with Steel Thursday

    TELL CITY – Perry County Public Library of Tell City will hold Kusari: The Art of Knitting with Steel on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.

    Kusari, or Japanese chainmail, was invented in the 13th century, around the time of the Mongol invasions of Japan. Used to connect plates of armor, it drapes and hangs like fabric. Today, artists use Kusari to make beautiful jewelry and body art. It’s flexibility, versatility and strength make it the perfect medium for “knitting with steel.”

  • Tell City chili cook-off, pie baking contest Nov. 3

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Beautification Committee will host its ninth annual chili cook-off and second annual pie baking contest on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2 to 5 pm. The event will take place in City Hall Park and along the sidewalks in front of City Hall Park.

  • Preparing beehives for winter, topic of workshop at Perry Central Oct. 18

    LEOPOLD – Want to make sure your hives will survive the winter? Attend the Perry County Beekeepers meeting on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. in the FFA Building at Perry Central School.

    Topics will include ensuring hives have sufficient honey stores for the winter, winter feeding of honey bees, making sure your varroa mite treatment worked, and what the bees are currently foraging.

    Bill Gibson will demonstrate making sugar mush for late fall feeding if hives are underweight and making candy boards.

  • Los Gozosos homes benefit Nov. 2

    DERBY – Los Gozosos joy-filled homes benefit will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Derby Community Center. The event is a night out for adults to raise funds for a special needs orphanage in Chimaltenango, Guatemala.

    Live music will be by Carl & Eryn Sommer and Parker Newby. A photo booth, a look into the lives of the home, silent auction, homemade jewelry from a Guatemalan women’s shelter, and live videos will be shown with the hands and feet of these missions. Catering provided by Fiesta Grande.

  • Bristow Octoberfest, car show on Oct. 14

    BRISTOW – Bristow’s 29th Octoberfest will be on Sunday, Oct. 14. The event will also include street rod, antique, classic car and truck shows. Registration for the automobile show is at 8 a.m. Street rod inspections, door prizes, dash plaques and over 80 awards will be presented.

    The event is located at Bristow Community Center, 20569 Huffman Road, Bristow.

  • Artist Leslie Nichols exhibit of portraits on display at Archabbey Library Gallery

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is hosting an exhibit by Kentucky artist Leslie Nichols. The show will run today through Nov. 15.

    In this exhibit of portraits called “Textual Portraits,” Nichols is interested in visualizing the historical context of women’s lives and conveying a sense of social heritage. She uses found and original text relevant to the individual portrayed to create the image.

  • 4-H benefit dinner, auction coming to fairgrounds Nov. 10

    TELL CITY – A pork chop dinner and benefit auction will be held at the Perry County 4-H Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 10, with the dinner starting at 5 p.m. and auction at 5:30. Cost is $9 for pork chop dinner, and includes sides and drink. Meals tickets must be purchased in advance by Oct. 29 by contacting (812) 547-7084.

    Auction items will include Disney World tickets, a decorative clock, shovels and rakes, gloves, gift certificates and more. Visit www.facebook.com/perrycounty4hfair/ for more items.

    All proceeds benefit the local 4-H program.

  • Plans set for 2018 fall tour

    October arrives next week and with it, plans for this year’s Hoosier Heritage Fall Tour. Activities are planned during October in several communities, including a bicentennial celebration in Rome on Oct. 6-7. Other events include Cannelton’s Oct. 13 Heritage Festival and the yearly car show in Bristow on Oct. 14.

    TELL CITY – The  Hoosier National Forest is offering several public events in October. Visit forest staff in action as they work to create early successional habitat for wildlife and pollinators in the Managing for Wildlife program.
