  • Celebration singers announce concert dates for December

    DUBOIS COUNTY – The Celebration Singers Community Choir will present three public concerts in Dubois County during December.
    The first concert will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 in the recently remodeled Cabby O’Neill Gymnasium in Jasper. The program is being presented in connection with the community’s O’Tannenbaum Days Celebration.
    The choir will present the program again at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.

  • St. John’s bazaar set for Saturday

    NEW BOSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church, one-half mile west of New Boston, will host a Christmas bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at the church.
    Items will include crafts, needlework, apple dumplings, homemade candies, baked goods, springerlies, jellies, produce and more.
    There will also be an early-bird breakfast consisting of sausage, gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes. Food will be ready at 7 a.m.
    Soups, sandwiches and pie will be available throughout the day. “Special” soup will be sold by the gallon.

  • St. Paul chili supper, Christmas bazaar Friday, Saturday, Sunday

    TELL CITY – St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City will host a chili supper and Christmas bazaar this weekend at the church.
    The chili supper will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday in the parish hall. The dinner will include all-you-can-eat chili, peanut butter sandwiches, crackers, drink and dessert for $5.
    The Christmas bazaar will kick off Friday during the supper and continue Saturday after 5:30 p.m. Mass and after the 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Masses Sunday.

    EUCC Thanksgiving dinner today
    TELL CITY – The Evangelical United Church of Christ will prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner today. The meal will be served in the fellowship hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Anyone wishing to have meals delivered in the morning can call the church office at 547-7059.
    Meals will be delivered in Tell City, Cannelton and Troy. Anyone is invited to call the church to request a meal.

  • Benedictine Sister writes rosary book

    FERDINAND – When Sister Madonna Helmer celebrated her golden jubilee as a Sister of St. Benedict in 2006, she felt there was “something special I should do as I met that milestone in my life.” What she ended up doing, even though she never considered herself a writer, was write a book.

  • St. Benedict music students to hold recitals for public Dec. 5

    FERDINAND – Twenty-five music students of Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand will present two Christmas music recitals Dec. 5 at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand.
    The recitals, which are free and open to the public, will be held at 1:30 p.m. EST and 3:30 p.m. EST in Assembly Hall at the monastery.
    Students performing at 1:30 p.m. will be Jessica Bertke, Claire Dooley, Ivy Evans, Madison Fella, Grace Gogel, Paulina Gogel, Garrett Jarboe, Madison Hammond, Audrey Keepes, Olivia Schroering, Nolan Snyder and Jenny Weinzapfel.

    Deer Creek Baptist to host gospel quartet
    TELL CITY – The Southern Harmony Quartet will be the special guests Sunday for the church’s Thanksgiving service.
    The quartet have been singing southern gospel music style since 1997. The community is invited to at-tend and hear them as they worship through music and use their talents to serve God.
    There will also be a fellowship meal after the morning service. There will be no Sunday school and the morning service begins at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the event.

  • St. Paul Confirmation

    St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City celebrated confirmations Sunday, Oct. 10 with Archabbot Justin DuVall OSB of St. Meinrad Archabbey presiding. Eighteen students of St. Paul were confirmed. They are Ryan Hackbarth, Jordan Heck, Christopher Kohnert, Lehn Fischer, Blake Alvey, Trent Nelson, Courtney Blinzinger, Amanda Wagner, Sarah Goffinet, Darian Allen, Samantha Widmer, Jessica Ballman, Klyne Waninger, Hana Reed, Whitney Zellers, Jamie Holman and Taylor Howe.

    Annual St. John’s fall social Sunday
    NEW BOSTON – St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston in-vites the public to its annual fall social Sunday in the parish hall.
    Chili, burgers and homemade desserts will be serv-ed. Serving begins at 10:30 a.m. The day will also in-clude a country store, quilt raffle and pick-a-prize auction.
    A bingo party will begin at 12:30 and a euchre tournament will start at 5:30 p.m.
    The community is invited to bring the whole family to enjoy the day.
