    A friend of mine, Jim Adkins, asked me to help his father-in-law take a copy of his book, “Wild Taste of Nature,” and format it so it could be published through CreateSpace. The book had been printed years before with Xerox copied pages and a cardstock cover. This is how I meet its author, Irv Rueger.

    Guild rummage sale May 5

    TELL CITY – Emmanuel Women’s Guild will have their spring rummage sale on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 8 a.m. This is held in Lutheran Church hall at 12th street and Pestalozzi.

    Monte Cassino pilgrimages

    planned for Sundays in May

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

  • Paintings on display at Abbey library

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is hosting an exhibit of mixed media paintings by Louisville, Ky., artist Laurie Doctor. The show will run through May 14. Doctor is an accomplished painter and calligrapher who teaches workshops in the United States and Europe.

  • Deacons ordained at Saint Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Three seminarians received the order of deacon from the Rev. Charles Thompson, archbishop of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, at the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad on April 7.

    The newly ordained deacons are Timothy DeCrane and Vincent Gillmore, both of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis; and Br. Damien Evangelista OSB of Prince of Peace Abbey, Oceanside, Calif. They are students at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

    Others in their class will be or have been ordained deacons in their respective dioceses.

  • Monte Cassino pilgrimages in May

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

    The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:

    • May 6, Brother Lorenzo Peñalosa OSB, “Purifying Our Memories with Mary, Mother of Hope”

    Easter worship service at Clayton Harris UMC


    TOBINSPORT – Clayton Harris Memorial United Methodist Church in Tobinsport invites the community to worship with its congregation on Easter Sunday. Worship will begin at 8 a.m., followed by  a pitch-in breakfast, egg hunt and Sunday School.

  • Churches to host noon Holy Week services

    TELL CITY – Several local churches will present mid-day meditations during Holy Week, Monday, March 26, through Friday, March 30. Meditations will begin at noon and everyone is invited. Locations for the week are as follows:

    Monday, Community Christian Church

    Tuesday, First Baptist Church

    Wednesday, Evangelical United Church of Christ

    Thursday, Tell City Church of the Nazarene

    Friday, First United Methodist of Tell City.

  • Philosophy professor to speak on prayer

    ST. MEINRAD – Caitlin Smith Gilson will present the annual Thomas Lecture on Philosophy and Theology at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad.

    The lecture will be held on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. Central Time in St. Bede Theater.

    This year’s lecture is titled “Prayer, Suffering and Self-Presence.”
