  • Monks celebrate jubilees of monastic profession

    ST. MEINRAD – The Benedictine monks at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, celebrated the jubilee of monastic profession for five of their confreres on July 29. Honored were Fr. Bonaventure Knaebel, 80 years; Brother Giles Mahieu and Brother Kim Malloy, 60 years; and Fr. Brendan Moss and Fr. Adrian Burke, 25 years.

  • Archbishop Peter Wells named Distinguished Alumnus at Saint Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Archbishop Peter Wells, the Vatican’s ambassador to five countries in southern Africa, was honored on July 24 with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, at the annual Saint Meinrad Alumni Reunion. He graduated from Saint Meinrad College in 1987.

    The award, given by the Saint Meinrad Alumni Association, was begun in 1990 to honor alumni who exemplify the Gospel values and have provided exemplary service in their lives or professions. The association’s board of directors reviews nominations for the award annually and makes the recommendations.

  • Lilly Dale Church revival starts Sunday

    TELL CITY – Lilly Dale Church of Christ will host its revival meeting and homecoming beginning Sunday, July 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 1. Brother Tim Morrow of Louisville will be the guest speaker. Each message will start in 1 Kings with an event in Elijah’s life.

    Sunday 7 p.m. - God’s Provision

    Monday 7 p.m. - The Thrill of Victory

    Tuesday 7 p.m. - The Agony of Defeat

    Wednesday 7 p.m. - On Fire Again

    A Homecoming meal will follow the Sunday morning service.

  • St. Boniface picnic Aug. 5

    FULDA – Historic St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda will celebrate its annual summer picnic on Sunday, Aug. 5. 

    Live music, church tours, shuttle service, wheelchair accessible parking, shaded grounds and air-conditioned dining will be available throughout the day. Roast beef or fried chicken dinners with all the trimmings served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take-outs are available. Fulda’s famous soup will be sold by bowl or bulk (containers are available).

  • Deer Creek Baptist celebration Sunday

    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church will celebrate its 197th year on July 29.

    Cheri Taylor with Cheri Taylor Ministries will give a concert at 10:30 a.m. and Pastor Christain Watkins will give the morning message. The congregation will celebrate paying off the mortgage for the church remodel projects with a note-burning after the service.

    Healing is a subject that you don’t hear much about. Oh, you hear it on television but usually not from the pulpit at your local church. I attended church from the time when I was, oh, let’s say 8 years old, and I don’t ever remember the preacher talking about healing.

    Why is that? Is it that we don’t believe in it?

  • Motorcyclists show support for teen girl ministry

    TELL CITY – The weather on Saturday was excellent for the benefit motorcycle ride for the GC3 teen girl’s ministry. Although turnout wasn’t huge, it was a good day.

  • Gospel Tabernacle Church camp July 22-26

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Gospel Tabernacle Church will host its 46th victory valley church camp, July 22-26, with old fashion camp meeting services. Special music and revival style preaching will be held nightly.
