    CANNELTON – Cannelton Free Will Baptist Church will present its Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 23, at 6 p.m. Pastor Daniel Reeves and Rev. Cleatus Garrett invites everyone to attend. The church is located on the corner of Second and Taylor Streets.

    Deer Creek Baptist shows this and next Sunday

     

    TELL CITY – A play presented by children, “Just a Little Christmas,” will be at Deer Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. A fellowship will follow.

    The choir will present Emmanuel: Celebrating Heaven’s Child on Sunday morning, Dec. 23, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Christain Watkins will bring the message following the choir presentation. All are welcome to these events.

    Methodist chili supper Dec. 12

     

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton, Rome and Tobinsport Methodist churches will host a free chili supper Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. This supper will be at the Methodist church in Cannelton, 214 S Third St. The public is welcome.

    BRISTOW – The United Pentecostal Church in Bristow is now taking candy orders for Christmas.

    TELL CITY – Mark Mudd will bring special singing to Deer Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 18, during the 10:30 a.m. morning worship.

    St. John Chrysostom fall social Sunday

     

    NEW BOSTON – St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston will host its annual fall social on Sunday, Nov. 11, in the parish hall.

    Chili, burgers and homemade desserts will be served starting at 10 a.m. and the day will include a country store, silent auction and quilt raffle. Bingo will be played from noon to 3:30 p.m.

    The public is invited.

  • Improvement is a goal, even for the church

    I have noticed people tend to glorify the first-century church. People talk about returning to primitive Christianity like it is the cure for all the problems the church faces. However, if you move past the first few chapters of Acts, the church had lots of issues. The church was filled with people from various backgrounds, maturity levels and world views trying to figure out what it means to be a Christian in this world. Just like the church is today.
