  • Book signing planned for prayer book author

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Gift Shop and Scholar Shop will host a book signing on Saturday, Aug. 25.

    Author Agnes Kovacs will sign copies of her book, “A Prayer Book for Catholic Women,” at both locations. The Scholar Shop signing will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Gift Shop signing will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

  • Cruise in for Christ Oct. 13

    CANNELTON – Youth Refuge, the youth outreach group with First Baptist Church in Cannelton, is sponsoring Cruise In For Christ, a bike, car and truck show on Oct. 13.

    The event will take place on the church grounds at 325 S. Fourth St. in Cannelton. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with judging at 1 p.m. and awards at 3 p.m. A food booth and rest room facilities will be available.

    People looking to participate or admire the entries are welcome.

    DOOLITTLE MILLS – Bethel Christian Church in Doolittle Mills will have its homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 26, with a message by Brother Robert King, who is a retired minister from Augusta. Everyone is welcome.

  • St. Pius fall fest Sept. 9

    TROY – St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy will host its annual fall festival on Sunday, Sept. 9. On the menu is the parish’s famous soup, by the bowl and gallon, fried chicken or roast beef dinners, hamburgers, brats, ice cream and homemade pie.  Entertainment includes the Crosswinds band, a giant yard sale, games for adults and children and a raffle. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Please take containers for carry-out soup.

  • Pancake breakfast Sunday at Deer Creek Baptist

    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church will have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 8 to 9 a.m. at 6733 Alamo Road, Tell City. Afterwards will be Sunday school at 9:30 and worship service with Pastor Christain Watkins at 10:30 a.m.

  • Novice begins year of discernment at abbey

    ST. MEINRAD – In a brief ceremony, Novice Christian Lumsden was clothed in the Benedictine habit at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Sunday. He now begins a year of monastic formation, including study of the Rule of St. Benedict and monastic history. 

    Lumsden, 44, is a native of Trinidad.

  • Monks celebrate jubilees of monastic profession

    ST. MEINRAD – The Benedictine monks at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, celebrated the jubilee of monastic profession for five of their confreres on July 29. Honored were Fr. Bonaventure Knaebel, 80 years; Brother Giles Mahieu and Brother Kim Malloy, 60 years; and Fr. Brendan Moss and Fr. Adrian Burke, 25 years.

  • Archbishop Peter Wells named Distinguished Alumnus at Saint Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Archbishop Peter Wells, the Vatican’s ambassador to five countries in southern Africa, was honored on July 24 with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, at the annual Saint Meinrad Alumni Reunion. He graduated from Saint Meinrad College in 1987.

    The award, given by the Saint Meinrad Alumni Association, was begun in 1990 to honor alumni who exemplify the Gospel values and have provided exemplary service in their lives or professions. The association’s board of directors reviews nominations for the award annually and makes the recommendations.

  • Lilly Dale Church revival starts Sunday

    TELL CITY – Lilly Dale Church of Christ will host its revival meeting and homecoming beginning Sunday, July 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 1. Brother Tim Morrow of Louisville will be the guest speaker. Each message will start in 1 Kings with an event in Elijah’s life.
