The Youth Refuge group held a summer bash July 13 in Cannelton. Area businesses donated items for the event and Cannelton Fire Department fireman Ryan Powers and Cannelton Police Department Sgt. David Biever and Patrolman Micah Jackson, along with police canine Erik, were present to meet and hold demonstrations for children.

Powers brought one of the city’s fire trucks for the kids to explore while Biever and Jackson ended the day by volunteering as team captains for the relay race. The Youth Refuge meets the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Cotton Mill Apartments community room.
More information and pictures from the event can be found on the groups Facebook page www.facebook.com/youth refuge2012.
