ST. MEINRAD – Urvin H. Vaal, 96, of St. Meinrad died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 5:38 a.m. in Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in St. Meinrad to August and Margaret (Fetter) Vaal. He married Anastasia “Anna” Wiederkehr Sept. 30,1941, in the St. Meinrad Archabbey Church.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Meinrad Parish.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Anastasia “Anna” Vaal; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Margie) Rothgerber of Ferdinand, Mrs. Richard (Eileen) Emerson of Branchville, Mrs. Jim (Diana) Gogel of St. Meinrad and Mrs. Jerry (Brenda) Wheatley of Huntingburg; three sons, Delbert (Pat) Vaal, Charles (Susan) Vaal and Marvin (Mary) Vaal, all of St. Meinrad; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Violet Woebkenberg, Elizabeth Horney and Marie Koops and five brothers, August, Leo, Albert, Roman and Alvin Vaal.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 12, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand was in charge of arrangements.
