UPDATE: TC schools resume early dismissal

UPDATE, 1:46 p.m.: Bruce Chinn, transportation director for Tell City-Troy Township schools, said early dismissal of students has resumed.


UPDATE, 1:23 p.m.: Due to a tornado warning now in effect, Tell City-Troy Township students are no longer being sent home. those who were on buses were diverted to the nearest school.

PERRY COUNTY – Two of Perry County’s three school systems were closing their doors early Friday in the face of severe weather expected to enter the county this afternoon.

Tell City-Troy Township and Perry Central Community schools were closing their doors between noon and 1 p.m. Cannelton Schools officials decided to keep their students in school, citing basements in those buildings.

Perry County is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings were in effect shortly before 1 p.m. in several southern Illinois counties.
