Tell City outserves Perry Central for win

TELL CITY—Kammie Jo Hayes made 16 kills and her serving also helped Tell City beat Perry Central 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 in volleyball Thursday.

Maddie Labhart served four consecutive points to pull the Commodores within three points, 15-12, in the first game.

They eventually pulled within one at 17-16.

But then they made a bad serve. Hayes followed by serving the last seven points of the game.

Her final point was an ace but three of the ones before that came on bad returns by Perry Central.

The second game was close throughout. Addy Davis served two consecutive points to pull Perry Central within two, 21-19.

Hayes later made a kill to put Tell City up 24-20 and then Samantha Stephens served the final point.

The Marksmen took control early in the third game. Hayes served four consecutive points - one ace - to put them up 12-3.

Hayes served 16 points for the match, including seven aces. She also made 13 digs.

Addison Fella added eight kills for the Marksmen. Justice Kuster had 27 assists, as she did nearly all the setting with Grace Kreilein sidelined a week with an inflamed rotator cuff.

Hayes, Fella and Elizabeth Thomas each made one block.

Stephens made eight digs and Annie Wood added seven to back Hayes in that department.

Wood served eight points and Stephens and Caitlin Teague each added seven, with Teague getting two aces.

Bree Noland led 2-10 Perry Central with 10 kills and two blocks. Davis and Maria Hubert each added seven kills.

Davis had 13 assists and Morgan Judy had eight.

Elisha Schwartz made 12 digs and Labhart added nine.

Eleven bad serves hurt the Commodores.

Tell City improved to 8-3 with its seventh consecutive win. “We’re playing well as a team,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes.

Tell City won the JV match 25-8, 25-12 as Lainey Peter made five kills, Victoria Weatherholt four, and Kali Lehmkuhler three.

Peter and Jenna Arnold each had six assists.

Weatherholt made 15 digs, Chloe Sandage nine, Peter five, and Carli Hosler three.

Fortwendel served 11 points (six aces) and Sandage added eight points (four aces).

Jaylynn Bryant made three kills for Perry Central and Alexa Hedinger had four assists.

Justice Cash made 12 digs and Elly Wallace added six.

Tell City won the C-team match 25-22, 25-21 as Peter made four kills and Hosler served three aces. Kali Lehmkuhler and Emma Ettensohn each had four assists.

Stella Hubert made five kills and Rosa Pund three for Perry Central. Hedinger had 12 assists.

Pund made four digs and Hubert and Alyssa Hill each added three.

Tell City will host Forest Park Tuesday at 5 p.m. Perry Central will visit Paoli Tuesday at 5:30.
