Tell City falls to Raiders, Patriots

HUNTINGBURG—Southridge scored four runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game and beat Tell City 9-3 in PAC baseball Tuesday.
The game was completed Tuesday after being suspended after four innings last Thursday due to lightning.
“When the game started on Thursday we had a few errors that caused us to fall behind,” said Tell City Coach Trent Benningfield. “Once we resumed play on Tuesday, I thought we played much better and our energy was better.
“We haven’t had much get-up-and-go the last few games so it was nice to see us finally starting to get that back. But to beat the solid teams like Southridge, you have to bring the focus and energy for a whole game - not just a few innings - and we didn’t do that.”
Each team had nine hits. Whitaker Lyons and Travis Burchett each had two for Tell City, with Lyons driving in two runs.
Tell City lost to Heritage Hills 11-1 in five innings Friday.
Burchett hit his seventh home run of the season for Tell City’s only run.
Caleb Malcomson had the Marksmen’s only other hit.
“We just simply did not play well,” said Benningfield. “We didn’t hit or pitch well, but I thought our defense did all right.
“We are dealing with a few different injuries right now and have guys in positions that they haven’t been in for most of the year. We are struggling to find ways as a team to get off of the bus and be focused at our away games.”
