Shoes shouldn’t count in measuring height

-A A +A
By Larry Goffinet

When Wilt Chamber-lain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton played pro basketball, a lot of fans and sportswriters and some opponents insisted they were taller than their listed heights.
Chamberlain was listed at 7-foot-1 and some players insisted he had to duck when going through a doorway they measured as 7 feet, 2 inches high.
But of course he was wearing shoes when he went through the doorway, and they normally add an inch to 1 1/4 inches to a person’s height. And if someone expects to brush the top of the doorway, his normal reaction is to duck.
