PAOLI - Perry Central blew a 22-point first-half lead but came back to beat Paoli 59-57 in overtime in PLAC girls basketball Saturday.

The Commodores hit 16 of 24 shots from the field as they built a 38-16 halftime lead. But they made only 7 of 26 after the intermission.

"The first half we were hitting nearly everything we threw up there and they weren' t hitting anything," said Perry Central Coach Sarah Spindler. "The second half it was kind of reversed.

"We were getting plenty of shots in the second half but I don' t think we were taking quite as good shots as we took in the first half."

Foul trouble also hurt the Commodores in the second half, with two starters fouling out.

Strong rebounding helped the Commodores, though. They grabbed 36, including 15 at the offensive end.

Alie Schroeder had 17 rebounds and blocked six shots. Rachael Rayford added seven rebounds and reserve Deidra Dickerson "got some key rebounds," said Spindler.

Rayford, a 5-foot-6 sophomore forward making her first varsity start, led the Commo-dores in scoring with 20 points on 7 of 11 field-goal shooting and 6 of 8 free throws.

Schroeder added 13 points and Hilarie Hahus scored nine.

Sophomore forward Olivia Stroud led Paoli with 14 points.

Perry Central improved to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the PLAC. Paoli fell to 3-8 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

Perry Central won the junior varsity game 31-20 as Katie Schwartz scored eight points, Deidra Dickerson seven, and Amy Schwartz five.

Tessa Lynch led the 6-4 Commodores in rebounds with six. Lavina Schwartz made five steals and Dickerson had five assists.

Perry Central will play at North Posey noon Jan. 5.
