LEOPOLD—Losing an epic first game seemed to take the wind out of Perry Central’s sails as the Commodores fell to Heritage Hills 30-28, 25-14, 25-18 in volleyball Thursday.

The Commodores led most of the first game, including 23-19 and 28-27 after a Heritage Hills serve into the net.
Heritage Hills sophomore Kaebra LaGrange, daughter of former Perry Central three-sport star John LaGrange, then made a slap kill to tie the score.
The 15-2 Patriots proceeded to serve the final two points, the last one scoring on an in-the-net call against the Commodores.
That finish may have deflated the young Commodores, “especially when you play that good a team,” said Perry Central Coach Becky Genet.
But “we stepped it up and did a lot of good things tonight,” she added. “We kept being aggressive. We keep improving.”
The Commodores did build leads of 4-0 (on four points served by Brittany Overstreet) and 5-2 in the second game.
But then they made a bad serve and Shea Tempel served seven consecutive points for the Patriots to put them up 10-5.
Megan Kloeck made consecutive kills on the Patriots’ last two points of that game.
Megan Hedinger led Perry Central with 10 kills and four blocks for the match.
Ashley Gengelbach added seven kills, Hannah Harpenau six, and Sydney Goffinet five.
Tessa Lynch had 19 assists and Lauren Davis added seven.
Overstreet and Davis each made nine digs and Jennifer Kemp added eight.
Overstreet and Davis each served two aces.
Heritage Hills won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-18.
Mackenzie Etienne led Perry Central with six kills.
Lynsay Goffinet added four kills, five digs, five assists and two ace serves, and Maggie Thomas had seven assists.
Perry Central, 11-12 in varsity and 4-11 in JV matches, will visit Mitchell Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
