State police ask for public’s help identifying driver

KITTERMAN CORNER – A hit-and-run crash on Interstate 64 Wednesday evening killed a Boonville man. According to state police, the Tell City Dispatch Center received a call at 7:51 p.m. reporting a crash at the 73.5-mile marker.

Police said Kenneth G. Derr, 64, and his brother Michael W. Derr, 69, of Evansville had pulled off onto the north shoulder to change a flat tire on the driver’s side of a trailer they were pulling. Kenneth Derr was changing the tire when what is believed to be an older-model dark-blue small pickup truck or passenger car crossed onto the shoulder and hit the man.

Without stopping, the suspect vehicle continued west on I-64.

Derr was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County coroner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for today in Tell City. Michael Derr was not injured.

The Derrs’ vehicle, a black 1996 Jeep Cherokee, and the trailer were not damaged.

The suspect vehicle has not been located and should have damage to the front passenger side.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Indiana State Police Jasper Post at (800) 742-7475.

Assisting state police at the scene were the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, Perry County Rescue Squad, Perry County Coroner’s Office and the Tell City Police Department.
