Harrison holds off Tell City

TELL CITY—Harrison built an 11-2 lead and held off a late Tell City rally to edge the Marksmen 11-10 in baseball Thursday.
“We started off slow and struggled to make adjustments at the plate the first five innings,” said Tell City Coach Trent Benningfield. “Once we made an adjustment we hit the ball very well, but it was too little, too late.
“Tretter (Lyons) came in and pitched four quality innings for us to keep us in the game.
“I am proud of our guys for not quitting when we were down nine with two innings to go. It shows a lot about their fight.
“We just have to do a better job of getting going offensively and defensively early in the game.”
Tell City finished with 15 hits, one fewer than the Warriors.
Whitaker Lyons hit a home run and a double to lead the Marksmen. Travis Burchett added his third homer of the season and a single.
Tretter Lyons hit a single and a triple, Nick Smith had a double, and Preston Hendershot and Bryon Reid each added two hits.
Hendershot drove in three runs and Tretter Lyons and Smith each added two RBIs.
Bryson Naviaux, the first of three Tell City pitchers, took the loss.
Tell City, 2-2, will host Breckinridge County tonight at 5:30.
