Eastwood’s “The Mule” an ode to fatherly conflicts

-A A +A
By Eric Harris

“The Mule” is one of those movies that could only be made if it was based on a true story. It’s about a 90-year-old man who becomes a drug mule for a Mexican cartel when he needs to earn money to make up for lost time with his estranged family. It’s a movie particularly fitting for Clint Eastwood to make. It’s not because Eastwood has become a drug mule in his old age (that I know of). It’s because his character, Earl, realizes late in life that he failed his family in favor of his career.
