Council, works board welcome ‘new’ faces

CANNELTON – A shuffling of members was announced at the outset of a regular Cannelton Common Council meeting Dec. 13.

The city’s Democratic party leaders held a caucus, Mayor Smokey Graves said, and opted to assign Bruce Myers to the council’s at-large position. Adam Goffinet was shifted from it to the District 2 chair formerly held by Louis “Snooks” Scarboro, who resigned in October.

Myers was elected to the District 1 council seat in 2003, but was defeated in 2007 by Lynn Fulkerson.

The city’s board of public works and safety also welcomed council veteran Emory Yaggi to its table.

“Emory’s been gracious enough to accept that position,” Mayor Smokey Graves said.

The board has seen several members arrive and depart recently, and Graves said the departures were nothing more than conflicts with their work schedules.

“They all did a great job,” he said.

Myers resigned his position as building inspector to move back onto the council, and Graves said Friday he will appoint a new inspector soon.
