  • Cannelton falls to Crawford...

    MARENGO—Cannelton improved its digging but lost to Crawford County 25-19, 25-13, 25-10 in volleyball Thursday.
    Tori Stowe made 12 digs, the most by a Bulldog this season.
    Caressa Sloss made three kills. She, Chloe Davis and Jordyn Vogt each made one block.
    Nicole Harris served one ace.
    Cannelton, 0-15, will host South Spencer for senior night Tuesday at 6 p.m.

  • Jasper’s defense stops Commodores

    JASPER—Jasper’s blocking and digging held Perry Central’s offense down as the Wildcats won 25-13, 25-6, 25-14 in volleyball Thursday.
    Payton Emmons, Maddie Hubert, Brooke Mullis and Terissa Roark each made three kills to lead Perry Central. Addy Davis had 11 assists.
    Hubert made 16 digs and Mullis added 13. Roark made two blocks.
    The Commodores served only one ace.
    Jasper won the JV match 25-14, 25-8.
    Maddie Labhart and Jenna Lutgring each made three kills for Perry Central.

  • Mater Dei holds off Tell City

    TELL CITY—Passing problems hurt Tell City late in the first game as the Marksmen lost to Mater Dei 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 in volleyball Thursday.
    “They were good games,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes. “We should’ve won the first one. We had a 23-17 lead, but they had a good server up there and we couldn’t pass the ball.”
    Emma Kohnert led Tell City with 12 kills and six blocks - three solos. Kammie Jo Hayes added seven kills and Emili Stephens and Mary Steen each made four.
    Emily Hagedorn had 21 assists.

  • Marksmen advance to finals again

    REO—Tell City won every match actually played to beat South Spencer 4-1 in the first round of the South Spencer boys tennis sectional Thursday.
    The 3-10 Marksmen advanced to the championship match for the fourth year in a row. They were scheduled to take on Castle in the finals Saturday.
    Tell City has had to forfeit in No. 3 singles all season. But Kevin Yeung beat Kyle Market 6-4, 7-5 in No. 1 and Chandler Lacy defeated Nick Sibrel 6-0, 7-3 in No. 2.

  • McPheeters propels Senators past...

    LEOPOLD—A strong power running game and a tipped interception helped West Washington beat Perry Central 31-14 for the PLAC football title Friday.
    The Senators finished 5-0 in the conference and improved to 7-0 overall. Perry Central slipped to 6-1 overall and is 2-1 in the PLAC with two games left.
    West Washington featured an offensive line that included a 300-pound center, 289-pound guard, and 260-pound tackle and had a strong power runner in 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior Landon McPheeters.

  • Tell City tops Vikings

    TELL CITY—Tell City overcame an early 9-0 deficit to beat PAC foe North Posey 25-19 in overtime football action Friday.
    Cameron Kessinger scored from 3 yards out on third down in overtime to stake the Marksmen to a six-point lead that held up for their first win of the season.
    After seeing their extra-point try blocked, Tell City’s defense held the Vikings out of the end zone on a fourth down from the 2-yard line as Kessinger made a game-saving tackle at the 1-yard line to end the game.

  • Tell City outserves Wolfpack

    TELL CITY—Addison Fella served eight aces as Tell City beat Crawford County 25-13, 25-21 in eighth grade volleyball Tuesday.
    Fella served four consecutive points to give Tell City a 5-1 lead in the first game and came back with an ace serve on her second serving turn to put the Marksmen up 17-10.
    The Marksmen led by at least six points the rest of that game.
    Crawford County tied the second game 16-16 before making a bad serve.

  • No. 7 Tecumseh rolls past...

    LYNNVILLE—Tecumseh, ranked No. 7 in the state in the Class A coaches poll, beat Cannelton 25-8, 25-13, 25-5 in volleyball Tuesday.
    Caressa Sloss made four kills to lead Cannelton.
    Cannelton, 0-14, will visit Crawford County tonight at 6:30.

  • Mitchell holds off Perry Central

    LEOPOLD—Terissa Roark made eight kills and three blocks but Perry Central lost to Mitchell 25-18, 29-27, 25-22 in PLAC volleyball Tuesday.
    Maddie Hubert added five kills and Payton Emmons four for the Commodores. Addy Davis had 16 assists.
    Hubert made 15 digs, Brooke Lasher and Ryann Lynch nine apiece, and Brooke Mullis eight.
    Lynch served five aces.
    Perry Central slipped to 2-2 in the PLAC and 5-18 overall.
    Perry Central won the JV match 25-21, 25-22 as Kyra Roberts made six kills, Kirstyn Linne four, and Karissa Gayer three.

  • Tell City spikes Chargers

    PETERSBURG—Emma Kohnert made 21 kills and six solo blocks as Tell City beat Pike Central 25-27, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15 in PAC volleyball Tuesday.
    Kammie Jo Hayes added 11 kills and Mary Steen and Emili Stephens each made four.
    Emily Hagedorn had 38 assists.
    Madison Schuetter made 22 digs and Hayes added 18.
    Morgan Schuetter, Hagedorn and Steen each served two aces. Morgan Schuetter served 16 points overall and Hagedorn added 11.
