  • Tell City outshoots Perry...

    TELL CITY—Tell City worked the ball inside more to outshoot Perry Central 50.0 percent to 32.7 percent from the field and beat the Commodores 57-52 in the first round of the PSC Holiday Classic boys basketball tourney Monday.
    The Marksmen had hit at least 43 percent only twice in six previous games and hit just 42.5 percent in a season-opening loss to Perry Central.

  • Bulldogs 1-1 in tourney

    CANNELTON—Caressa Sloss had 10 points and 11 rebounds as Cannelton beat Columbus Christian in the Cannelton Invitational girls basketball round-robin Saturday.
    Cannelton lost to Rock Creek 42-18 earlier in the day in the three-team event.
    Rock Creek also beat Columbus Christian 51-20 to win the title.
    Cannelton hit a season-high 49.0 percent from the field against Columbus Christian and held the Crusaders to 26.2 percent shooting.
    The Bulldogs also won the rebound battle 39-27 and made 19 steals.

    CANNELTON—Cannelton could not overcome a slow start and lost to Columbus Christian 59-52 in the Cannelton Invitational boys basketball championship game Saturday.
    “We play hard,” said Cannelton Coach Michael Snyder. “It was unfortunate we got behind by so much in the first quarter - that was the difference in the ball game. We outplayed them for the next three quarters.

    TELL CITY—Emma Kohnert scored a career-high 30 points to propel Tell City past South Spencer 65-53 for third place in the PSC Holiday Tip-off girls basketball tourney Saturday.
    Kohnert hit 12 of 19 shots from the field and 6 of 8 free throws.
    She hit nine shots from within 7 feet of the basket but also made three from 10 to 15 feet.
    She was only 2 for 7 from the field earlier in the day against Perry Central, when she took nearly all of her shots from within 10 feet of the basket.

    TELL CITY—Perry Central held Tell City to 30.8 percent field-goal shooting to beat the Marksmen 41-29 in the first round of the PSC Holiday Tip-off girls basketball tourney Saturday afternoon.
    Katie Goffinet and Emma Kohnert are Tell City’s top two scorers for the season and Goffinet tied Celina Snyder for the team lead in this game with eight points.
    But Goffinet hit just 3 of 17 from the field and Kohnert 2 of 7.

    TELL CITY—Perry Central couldn’t stop Heritage Hills center Abby Wahl as she led the Patriots past the Commodores 55-41 for the PSC Holiday Tip-off girls basketball tourney championship Saturday night.
    Wahl, a 6-foot sophomore center, hit 9 of 11 shots from the field as she scored a game-high 20 points.
    She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Patriots won the board battle 34-23.

  • Perry Central earns first win

    DUBOIS—With only four healthy eighth graders, Perry Central rallied behind strong defense to beat Northeast Dubois 21-19 in eighth grade girls basketball Thursday.
    Kindra Mangel dislocated the little finger on her right hand in pregame warmups and Maddie Gray dislocated her right elbow in the middle of the second quarter.
    “So we were down to four eighth graders pretty fast,” said Perry Central Coach Mark Rothgerber. “But some of the seventh graders filled in well.”

  • Marksman junior high girls sweep...

    TELL CITY—Addison Fella had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals as Tell City beat Cannelton 45-19 in eighth grade girls basketball Thursday.
    Fella hit 6 of 6 free throws.
    Camryn Peter, Ava Hilgenhold and Elizabeth Thomas each added 10 points.
    Peter also had eight rebounds, six steals and two assists. Hilgenhold had eight assists, four rebounds and three steals, Mollie Arnold eight rebounds and two assists, and Leann Goffinet two steals.
    Madeline Lindauer led Cannelton with eight points, including two three-point field goals.

    TELL CITY—Rafe Garrett had 16 points and 19 rebounds as Cannelton beat Tell City 37-28 in eighth grade boys basketball Thursday.
    Despite his rebounding, Tell City won the board battle 35-32. But the Marksmen hurt themselves by hitting only 19.4 percent from the field while Cannelton hit 30.8 percent.
